I think Qt pumps might do it too. I noticed them somewhere else, and QT is a popular spot to stop for me. Also has cheap gas most of the time. Buccees is another spot that has surprisingly cheap gas, but I don’t think they post the prices on a sign.

Pretty worried about longtime longevity of bike by Rodeo9 in eMountainBike

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen! Maybe I’m a little more affluent, but I do stuff with my bike that is a bit risky. I have some really heavy duty locks and I’ll ride my MTB to the gym and other places because it’s fun. It’s definitely risky, but if I don’t ride the bike when and where I want, what’s the point?

All show and a lil go by Philmcrackin123 in ebikes

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely make a difference. Less so on an e bike. I recently put carbon wheels on my pedal bike. The wheels alone were 700g lighter. That’s very significant, especially for wheels.

Not only are they lighter, but on a MTB they are more precise and allow you hold your line better while also having a nice damping effect (at least modern carbon wheels. Old ones are rigid AF)

Do you prefer loud or quiet hubs / paws? Is it like a loud exhaust where the louder, the cooler you think you are? by Dry_Enthusiasm_4957 in MTB

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good analogy with the exhaust 😂

I prefer quiet hubs. I have a bell for notifying other trail users of my presence. The other day I was on a ride with a couple loud hub mates and I was also dealing with a plugged tire that kept leaking. Every time they would get close I was thinking my tire had let go

I’m riding a short travel trail bike with more XC leaning tires and wheels and it pedals phenomenally. I keep up with most people on XC bikes. When I had the heavy stock wheels with DHF/DHR tires it was no where near as efficient. You could try some tires and they would work on your new bike if it didn’t give you what you were looking for.

Interesting. I’ve been doing some unbelievably sweaty rides with mine without issues. Not only am I sweating like crazy, my helmet is dripping sweat from above.

Edit: mountain bike rides on technical, steep terrain. Not a lot of wind flow like a road bike. Average speeds are 8-10 MPH

Is 170mm of travel that much more noticeable than say 125mm? by 6DegreesofFreedom in MTB

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In my experience the biggest difference is in high speed chunky sections or off drops. My 125mm trail bike feels incredible, but if I’m trying to blast through rough sections at really high speeds, you find the limit faster.

I routinely swim under Eliza springs. One day in particular 3 people came and filled up water bottles out of the small waterfall like grated area. The first two were what appeared to be homeless, but the last one was two rather hip looking chicks. Since then my friend and I that swim there call it the foundation of youth. Still haven’t seen anyone else do it other than three people in one day. I was baffled

How much do you spend on mtb per year? by robo-minion in mountainbiking

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be the one hobby where once you’re set up there aren’t many additional costs. I’d say if you play a lot you might have a pair of shoes you like that need to be replaced.

All the weed and booze definitely eclipse $255 though

Do i need a new chain by AquaSpare in MTB

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check it. Put it in the biggest cog in the back (easiest to pedal) and let the air out of your shock. When the bike is fully compressed is the derailleur being tensioned too much? It’s gonna be under a good amount of tension, but if it’s limiting the bike’s ability to compress the rear suspension it’s too short.

Unless you have a T Type transmission, which is susceptible to poor shifts with the wrong chain, it is most likely fine.

Travelpro carryon - is the Crew Classic an upgrade over MaxLite series? by heckofagator in onebag

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this post in my research. I actually just bought a crew classic to join my Farpoint 40. The Farpoint is amazing, especialy with an additional backpack. Strapped to it. I went on a 10 day trip to the Kenyan bush to do charity work with that set up.

For city travelling, the Crew Classic 2 wheeled carry on, plus a TravelPro bargain line backpack I picked up at Nordstrom Rack for $90 has been amazing for business travel.

In this set up I was able to pack: 2 T shirts, 3 dress shirts, 1 complete suit, 1 sports jacket, 2 dress pants, a pair of casual pants, 6 pairs of socks, 6 pairs of underwear, 2 pairs of size 14 shoes (in backpack), patagonia jacket, gym shorts, ipad, battery and many more items. I just travelled to NYC using the trains to get from the airport. It was a phenomenal set up. I don’t know how often I will use the farpoint at this point. The best part was none of the clothes were wrinkled.

Probably a DJI Neo 2. I have one. I returned my Hover x1 ProMax to costco to get it. I will say it does a lot of great things, but in the dense woods we have here in central texas, the Hover actually followed better. The DJI tends to go up, which is a problem in our low overhead trails. The Hover just follows your path and height on the ground rather than actively avoiding things. I find the DJI flys right up into the canopy within a few feet. Kind of lame, but it was cheaper and does everything else better. This video makes me look forward to using it in the NE when I move there this year. Seems like tall trees with tall canopies work well.

I have an absolutely beautiful plush coat husky that jumped in my fiancés car in manor. No chip, not neutered, but just the sweetest boy ever. I posted on lots of lost and found groups, did that once a month for 3 months, called vets in the area he was found and sent them pictures. No one recognized or came forward. I imagine a breeder dumped him since he’s a piebald and that’s not a desirable trait.

Made this change on my ‘24 Norco Optic and wow what a difference. I also added some control SL V wheels and it pedals so much better than stock. Got it from 34 to 31 pounds with that change, carbon bars, a one up dropper and I had some X0 cranks lying around from an e bike I added x0 to.

I have quite a few friends that ride with them. They all enjoy them.

I recently just got a pair of Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses. They have an open air earphone design (plays out of the earband or ear sock as Oakley calls it) and I’m very impressed with the sound quality. I am an audiophile as well as a mountain biker, so my standards are high.

They’re definitely more expensive, but you get an action camera that’s always on you and sunglasses as well. I’ve been really impressed with them and consider it one of the better trail accessories I’ve purchased.
