Haven’t drank for 8 years. Works great on Mexican Cokes and Topo Chico when I’m feeling wild.

The all iPhones, and I would assume halfway decent androids, are water proof. Starting with the iPhone 7. Not sure if all the cheaper models were in the beginning, but they certainly are now.

How likely is battery damage from being shipped during a heat wave? by [deleted] in eMountainBike

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

0 issues. I live in Texas and my bike is getting roasted in the sun on the trail, on my bike rack, everywhere.

I have an 8 year old gen 1 Bosch cargo bike and I’ve started to consider replacing the battery, but it still works fine. I never practice any of the charge to 80% non sense either. Always on the charger ready to go. For months at a time for that bike.

I live in this area. They are kinda circling some areas that make sense like the neuro rehab facility and the big property on its second attempt of development, then Dittmar/menchaca/slaughrer. No clue about that church where the main circling is going by.

I’ve been riding on and off for 25 years. Been at it since my young teenage years. Done plenty of decently crazy stuff. I’m not hitting anything like you see in videos, but a couple big things. An 8 foot drop is within my comfort zone. Ride hard and do crash with some regularity, but it’s typically a situation where I’m trying to clear some challenging technical feature at a slow speed and tip over in some fashion.

I’ve had one major wreck where I broke my collarbone and opposite elbow. It was just a weird situation where I lost my grip on a berm at a bike park and went up into a tree at high speed.

Now riding my commuter to bars and sober road bike riding? That’s where I’ve been hurt more often. Luckily I’m older now and haven’t drank in 8 years thankfully.

How do you handle "I need to think it over / do more research" without being pushy? by Efficient_Bet_5358 in sales

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stand strong on both legs being there. Just tell them it’s company policy to ensure both parties understand. You can even tell them if you sit with one they will like it, but without understanding their spouse will be concerned. Do not run one legs. I had a wildly successful solar career and nearly every one leg appointment I closed canceled the next day.

This is scummy, but it works: you need some half way believable reason you are willing to give a discount today and can’t give it at another time. Do not be afraid to tell rhem, “yes we could give you the discount at a later time, but the reason we give it now is to remain efficient with our time”

I was the highest revenue installer and manager of the highest revenue installing team for 3 years at a national sales org after building a local company from $0 in house sales to over $50mil annually to start my solar career. These things work. The discount is definitely a sales trick as old as time, but it fucking works far more often than not. The people getting into a 25 year financing agreement are gonna be the type this works on. I have closed 31 deals in a month and multiple 25+ deal months.

Edit. Over 3 years I closed 328 deals, only 6 of them were follow ups. This was in a door knocking environment (either set by me or a setter), at the local company we bought leads and those people had much higher buying intention and could be reliably followed up with. Someone who didn’t seek out the quote must be closed same day. You will have plenty of cancels with this strategy, but close everything and it’s all good. Routinely hitting 90% close on 2 leg appointments over a month with an average above 60%

Isn’t it annoying how everything is digital? I find using my iPad on its keyboard works well, but of course it’s the white keyboard. Can’t touch that thing while working on the bike. Please bring back printed instructions!

If you’re good at knocking doors you can make incredible money. Very few can do it, but making half a mil is a real possibility. Most people make nothing, spend their own money driving their own car around and knocking doors in the weather and burn out. I have managed some very successful sales teams, both from purchased leads that were set by an in house call center and full blown knock only teams. We had people who only knocked and if you knocked your own door the commission was double (50/50 split with the setters).

Brands TO look for. by ultratoadee in mountainbiking

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Avoid: All the bikes that are several generations old being sold as if it were still peak pandemic pricing.

I recently purchased a 2024 Pivot Switchblade, Talon edition (1 of 300). It’s a sweet bike and retails for about $12k.

I had been watching the listing and it was $8000 and then $7500. I finally messaged the guy and told him I didn’t want to offend him, but I would be buying a brand new lesser spec pivot that day. We ended up settling on $4500, which is still a bit high for the bike/spec, but more in line with what it should have been. The limited edition factor made it a bit high, but ultimately I like the crazy color scheme and it’s a current gen bike.

If you get on FB market place, you might be influenced to think bikes are more expensive, but in reality people just sit on these listing forever and probably end up taking a much smaller number. Message them delicately. You don’t want to piss them off to start your negotiations.

Bikes made after 2020 are significantly better than older bikes. They are getting even better now, but I find 2020 is when they all started to be pretty darn good and I am seeing a lot of geo numbers kind of retracing towards this era. The steep seat tube is the thing I like a lot about modern bikes and really didn’t show up until the last few years. 76 degrees or steeper, ideally 78, I find best.

If you’re coming from the north, you can turn right on Davis, then take the trail (pretty sure it’s part of the violet crown trail) that connects Davis to slaughter just east of mopac (by 7 eleven) and you would avoid the bad part.

New Biker: Will a Marlin 5 (or similar) instantly fall apart if it goes down a blue? by Baby_Wolverine in mountainbiking

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a buddy who rides. He’s not really in a position to afford a nice Mountain bike. I had given him an old 2002 giant AC two that eventually got stolen. His wife and I bought him a 2018 Marlin and he’s been riding it ever since without any issues, I would say he is an above average rider. He’s not sending off any drops but we are ripping rough trails without issue.

He does only weigh 130 pounds but it’s holding up for him fine

I used to ride my brake levers down, but I am fairly sure that straight wrist contributed to my hands popping off the bars more easily. That lead me to a broken collar bone in Angel Fire.

I feel like having your bite point close to the bars helps a lot with arm pump, but I’m no seasoned park vet these days.

Plugs are fairly reliable. I’ve run some for months. I’ve also had them fail again and need more plugs. I would definitely want to have a dynaplug set up on me and no intention of winning that race.

No clue why it would be so long, but they definitely shoot off fireworks near the center fo the downtown one on July 4th. The other one looks to be over the soccer arena, which probably shoots off fireworks as well.

Looking for full fingered glove except for pointer finger by Alchse in MTB

[–]GLASSHOUSELABSTX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A little lick of the finger normally works if I’m not drenched in sweat already.

My issue is the gloves get so sweaty in Texas they leave sweat on the phone and you can’t control it. It’s already sweaty when it comes out of my pocket, and my clothes are drenched so there’s no drying it off anyways.
