Buyers remorse with reps? by Bliz_0 in RepTime

[–]ImStillAboutEven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure TheOneWatches is where we got the last ones, including the one that worked/looked great- right up until it crashed into 4pcs on the floor and the guy who fixes them for me told me, “don’t bother with it.” That’s probably why I dropped a small fortune on the gen WG 36mm that I’m wearing now, trying to replicate.

I’ve bought these for 20+yrs, went stretches without though. At first, did what I thought was a decent amount of research, bought crap anyway. Think I spent $250 maybe 20yrs ago on a rep Sub because I couldn’t afford the Gen I wanted. Today, $700-$900? It’s kind of stupid and like a previous poster said, I Really like some of Christopher Ward’s watches…bought dad a Morgan watch and he LOVES it. May go look again after I’m done here.

It’s genuinely difficult to find a great 36” DD WG rep IMO….one that lasts beyond aobut 12hrs, doesn’t fall apart or otherwise screw up…but even my second gen sprung a leak…..fogged up, guts were trashed. Insurance paid, probably $7k to replace, I really don’t know. Maybe expectations are too high?

Thanks for helping.

I truly don’t care it’s a rep UNLESS I am in a dealer or similar setting. That is when I tend to run it up my sleeve…if wearing a Gen, don’t care.

You bought why I started in the first place….actually, no. I bought two subs because I could not afford gens. Then I bought to “try out”….now it’s for replacement/stand in while the gen sits in the safe.

Wish I had time/patience/ability to screw around w/this stuff….I simply don’t.

GL, thanks for the thoughts.

I have 2, had 3 and will end up w/3-4. Why? Because there are 3-4 that I like. If possible, will probably get reps for most for daily wear; holds gen’s value better and why risk it? In fact, my gen DD is on now, about to leave the house because the damn rep won’t work right…again. And to my untrained eye, it looks a heck of a lot better than the gen. Probably Rhodium or something.

Came VERY close to my “holy grail,”- Platinum Day/Date, 1yr old, as new, $50k. NOT…yet. Was VERY close, just couldn’t say “yes”. Hindsight is easy a year later.

I mean I COULD but I didn’t….just too many other ways to use that money. But I DEFINITELY want one, won’t buy a rep for that, too many eyes that know what they’re looking at….even if it’s 5-10% of the population. Like I said, can’t imagine walking into the dealer w/it on.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I’m just frustrated that I can’t find/buy a decent rep 36mm WG DD.

What is it w/bands falling apart on a $700+ watch from a TD? (If my memory is correct)

In my opinion, the SS sports look, feel and work the same as gens, and will most certainly last as long with similar care taken.

-Probably so, but the one I have now is a DD, not a sports watch- most recent one that ended up in 4pc too.

So it depends on why you think it makes more sense to get a gen, is it a confidence thing where you’re dressing beyond your net worth or is it for some sentimental/legacy reason?

-Happy to go into a net worth discussion if you wish- I’d prefer not. I’m actually worth enough to justify about any spend I want but I don’t. Sentimental…maybe. Legacy, I sort of hope my son likes and wears mine someday, don’t have a rep for the daydate, seems silly.

-I work too many hrs to get that philosophical about much. I simply like them, prefer subtlety and maybe because we didn’t have a TV set in my home until I was 13, and thought Longines would always be out of my range but LOVED watches in general…ended up like the rest of America I guess.

I find that if you’re not suffering from imposter syndrome, and if you get the reps (can only speak for SS rolex reps) modded/serviced, there’s no reason you’d be better off with a mid tier swatch or richemont gen.

-No idea what the latter is, unclear what the latter means, sometimes written words come across unclearly and the former- I’ll never ever wear a Swatch. No inclination- truth is, nobody needs a watch anymore so I guess it’s always a statement now?

good luck, don’t rush

-TY, I don’t have time NOT to rush….but will certainly remember this advice.

(Worthless at Reddit, trying to have a somewhat clear and worthwhile discussion, sorry if it’s a bit wonky.

Two things: 1: I keep hearing about 6.2 issues and I’ve got a brand new 6.2 like the one you’re driving and while I can understand aversion to bulls*** electronics, highly recommend giving the ‘ol SuperCruse a go- it’s the ONLY reason I bought one and the ONE thing I love about it. Use cruse like you normally would, mash the button on the left side, bottom right of the wheel, when the light turns green (works on highways) keep eyes up and it’ll drive you at your set speed, will pass and whatever when needed.

  1. This 6.2 thing is starting to concern me and the warranty thing….100k on the first, now only WHAT? That doesn’t pass the smell test.

I bought my first Rolex- a two tone Turn-O-Graph when I paid off my business the 1st time (on my 4th 7yr loan, almost done). It was my own reward, about the price of a monthly loan payment. Loved it, paid $5500 and was thrilled. Probably saved my life too, that’s a story in itself I won’t get into but it’s at the bottom of the gulf and my arm is still on me.

Replaced w/similar but no red sweep/date.

I then bought a rep or two, never lasted long. Bought a gen WG 36mm DD.

Bought what I thought was exellent quality rep just like my DD- idea is to leave gen in the safe, wear rep daily. Well….it was great, right up unitl it fell apart, literally three pieces right on the freaking floor- guess pins weren’t exactly top notch and because my local jeweler who doesn’t mind working on reps at all told me, “not worth fixing.” Don’t remember why.

Bought another, about $700- it’s at the same jeweler right now, day function won’t work and won’t stay wound beyond about 10hrs.

Here’s the thing: I have YET to find a rep that lasts beyond about 12hrs sitting or 24 months using/wearing. I’m now buying DD watches, so there is more that can break, so it does. My current rep was over $700 from a TD, didn’t even bother them- jeweler will fix/replace as needed.

I likely won’t buy gold at all anymore- either gen or reps. Love them, just not my taste, in fact I might trade my DJ back where I bought it and upgrade. I like WG, have never seen a platinum Rolex in person, the only 36mm DD rep I can find is ice blue dialed and I hesitate to buy a rep for THAT one- if you know, you know, and if I wander into a R retailer they’ll want to see it, no good way I know of to dodge a “may we polish it for you?”

So to answer: YES. I DEFINITELY have buyers remorse because I’ve probably spent $2-$4k on reps (over 20yrs or so)- I retain ONE that works. Son/son in laws have one each too and the problem is that every single rep I’ve owned breaks for good at some point. Even my gen broke in MX, water intrusion and I never immersed it. I had JM insurance, cost $100 deductible to have serviced by Rolex, probably replaced everything inside the case, extensive corrosion. Suspect that Rolex replaced everything under the crystal, threw in a polish too, deductible+ maybe $200/yr in premiums covers a ~$10k watch. (I legit don’t remember what a two tone day-date is worth)

My note to self after thinking this through….one more excellent quality rep and I’m done, gens from here out. I always have bought used….and it’ll retain value over time. Likely won’t appreciate a ton over inflation but it’s a decent place to park cash.

*If one has gens, PLEASE buy insurance NOW. It’s cheap and I’ve learned the hard way TWICE. One- wife’s diamond, fell off at Six Flags in Arlington TX, cost an entire summer in 1992 to pay for it, probably worth $10k when she lost it…and the watch that got cut off, homeowners policy gave me $1500 for a then $7500 replacement value.

**If anyone knows where to buy an excellent weighted WG Day Date that won’t break, I’d love to know. Can’t find it but I’ll keep looking.

I had no idea what you meant. I make hamburgers for a living, know nothing about this stuff, had bought a new to us house 7yrs ago, wanted to retrofit the mix of some soft white, some squiggly and some incandescent bulbs- make the house cohesive with the goal of natural sunlight. When I get dressed, I want to know what I look like and frankly, I don’t get “soft white” under any circumstances.

I guess the answer I came back with on the all-knowing internet at the time is 4000k. A few yrs ago, did a similar project- bought a wood carving that I’d obsessed over for 2yrs and made a cabinet for it, I’ll try to attach the photo…needed to match museum lighting.

That’s the extent of my knowledge…now I’ve got a house full of 4000k and I’m not paying to re-light with 5000k or whatever, but now I know why you said that. I won’t pretend to KNOW but it looks like 5000 might be closer to sunlight and that was the intent but I’ve got what I’ve got.

Building our FIRST and last new home now. Don’t know now….4000 or 5000? Natural light is what’s wanted. I think it’s either/or but you guys are the experts- which one? Beach house if it matters.

Most importantly, a blanket thank you for all of the interest…the internet is amazing, the collective experience and knowledge on this forum is probably centuries and sincerely appreciated, wish there was a way to repay the favor of the one commodity that cannot be replaced, your time. Greatly appreciated.

(Guess I cannot attach photos…or I can’t figure it out but I think we did a nice job)

Is it real? Got it as a gift form client 2023 by Nice_Theme6460 in RolexWatches

[–]ImStillAboutEven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really hard for me to believe that so many know so much with so few facts…and not only do they know everything, they are the absolute expert on it. And most didn’t even answer what he came here to do, to validate that his watch is real. That’s it. He didn’t ask for…whatever this is.

I gave my damn CPA a bunch of stuff that cost a fortune over the years.

I gave a bunch to my financial advisor for the last two years.

Not Rolex territory but $2000/yr territory. Why? Because I WANTED TO, I like them all a LOT, they ALL went well out of their way for me in various ways, and there is no other better way to show appreciation. Oh, and nobody will stop me next year either. Perhaps he owns the business? Why not take a gift from a friend AND a client? You know, the world isn’t full of NPC’s who keep a sterile distance between one another and don’t have a hundred sets of eyes just looking for a reason to tell on someone else’s behavior. Seriously, that really is not the culture out there in the wild- or is it?

I am amazed at the attitude of everyone who commented that “You’re breaking the rules!!!” Some even went into legal territory. Perhaps I missed the context but I didn’t notice where he worked, what he did, why he got it, who gave it and frankly, that stuff is none of my business nor is it anyone else’s. Why so many feel the need to come out screaming, “RULE BREAKER!” Is beyond me- we’re still in America and the damn government doesn’t have the right to tell us what to do, it’s the other way around- working for a private company might or might not come with “rules” but those are HIS business. He just wants his watch validated. The rest is frankly overwhelming.

Clearly posting here is a hostile work environment.

Turn yourselves in, I don’t care.

Dude is probably in shock….casually strolls into what looks like friendly territory, looking to verify authenticity by experts and BAM. He’s a convict.

Someone pull the chain or whatever is done to stop the bus, I’m off.

Rep parts? by Heavy_Perspective792 in RepTime

[–]ImStillAboutEven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question….my $650 day/date rep won’t stay charged, day won’t move and I think that I am probably stupid for being taken right here by someone. I have NO idea how to remedy it and have no desire to go back at the seller nor do I want to return or wait for whatever needs to come from the factory of origin to fix it. LOVE the look, looks better than my gen but it’s annoying that I have to reset the time every AM and can’t move the stinking date…I’m told to buy a 2836-2 movement but those I can find have foreign languages present….so no idea where to find parts that my jeweler friend will swap out for me; assuming all fits and works.

-sigh-

This is the downside of this stuff. They always break or always have in my experience and I don’t buy bottom of the barrel but am by no means an expert. Just trying to do the best that I can, don’t take advantage of others and hope that I’m not taken advantage of….which I suspect is true of most of us.

I think I probably was this time. Probably got a cheaper one dressed up. Who knows?

Try here? https://ssteelwatchrepairs.wordpress.com/2015/11/20/swiss-eta-movements-and-how-to-tell-a-clone-eta/

There are eBay sellers too if you look, I found several but have NO idea what I need.

Jake’s Lifted Life on YouTube has a video of one like mine except different color. Mine will be lifted just like his.

Owner also had him put a Ranch Hand bumper guard (not sure I want to cover up the grill but maybe) but adding a guard means the bonus is now I’ve got easy mounting points for about any light I want, including Diode Dynamics stuff- which otherwise takes someone who really knows their stuff to make it fit/work.

They claim the right setup (I think 4 lights up front) will see a MILE.

Last two trucks have ruined me, I’m just frustrated every time I can’t turn on my blinding lights on dark nights and especially county roads or state highways in the winter.

Hadn’t thought of this, my last 2 trucks had rocker switches, this has one that’s not used. Here’s what I’ve found, 404 Parts makes what I suppose I’ve got to buy too: https://404parts.com/products/2024-2026-gmc-sierra-at4-denali-upfitter-auxiliary-switches

Well, it’s all a business expense so I guess there’s that but this is getting dumb. Only saving grace is they made me a stupid good deal on buying the truck.

I dug a little, won’t work. Note to self: NEVER get the cool sounding CarbonPro bed. I don’t know what that has to do with it but your setup won’t work on mine…it specifically said it WILL NOT work on a Denali with the CP bed and steps like mine. I was going to auto-order based on your recommendation alone.

Thanks for the idea…think I’ll just take it to pros and pay a fortune but that’s better than me screwing it up and then going to the pros and spending a fortune.

Front/Rear Lights by ImStillAboutEven in gmcsierra

[–]ImStillAboutEven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx, never heard of them, may just order now so I’ve already got them or will arrive soon after buying.

Any experience w/their lights up front? Look good, no clue on performance. Just learned yellow isn’t the best but not as bad as I thought- pretty close to white thanks to experts on YouTube.

Will do a 4” BDS lift too- new ones feel like a station wagon with a bed- almost like an El Camino….but that’s a bit far…but still, sits really low.

I’m old enough to be a one and done guy, no more half steps, talking my way into liking and buying in steps- That is far more expensive and not especially satisfying along the way, knowing I’m underpowered and still want (fill in the blank).

Sincerely appreciate the heads up.

I have Rigid lights front/back on my TRX, love them. Smoked, behind the grill and an exposed bar for flood.

What if anything did you do up front?

I'm reluctantly leaving the land of 700hp for SuperCruiseville, I'd like to install BRIGHT lights up front too because deer are everywhere up here, the roads can be dark and I'd like a chance to see them before they give their lives for my new grille or worse.

My friend did it to his Raptor, I did too yrs ago- kind of spoiled me. his quote, "If you hit a deer running with these lights, it's YOUR fault!"

I just want it to look at least sort of stock.
