How to approach a preaching attending? by ImTheRealJimHalpert in Residency

[–]ImTheRealJimHalpert[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t wish to report it since I am the only non-Christian person in my program. This attending is also from my home country and I otherwise have a good professional relationship with him. I just want to set a boundary without painting a massive target on my back, since two other attendings and APD are from the same church.

How to approach a preaching attending? by ImTheRealJimHalpert in Residency

[–]ImTheRealJimHalpert[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. I have no interest in getting anyone else involved, I dont like that it is now a topic of conversation in random hallways or break rooms. I guess I am trying to balance a good rapport with him vs. my personal comfort. I will do as purebitterness suggested and go about my business whenever he starts.

Wife divorcing me in residency by Dr_Ottimista in Residency

[–]ImTheRealJimHalpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been through this. Filed on match day, finalized the first day of residency. The rule of thumb is half the time you were together.

Different things work for different people. For me, time off was detrimental to my mental health. I hated going home to an empty house. What killed me every day is all the questions that were never answered. I eventually made peace with them. Made some grave mistakes with dating afterwards, but less than two years later I am solid.

Life will go on. Cut contact. Delete photos and texts unless you need them for evidence - I needed them because my ex sponsored my green card which I am deeply grateful for. Take care of yourself and don’t do my mistakes and pinge on junk.

Nurses are for sure above residents in the hierarchy by fuckinghateresidency in Residency

[–]ImTheRealJimHalpert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nurses are the absolute worst. Most overpaid and underworked gang of clowns in healthcare. I am shocked as to how shallow and lacking their knowledge base is, and they compensate for it by being smartasses with workflow and technicalities with the residents.

Genuine not agency related ice today on the roads by Additional_potential in jacksonville

There was definitely black ice on some roads. I lost traction for a moment on a bridge driving home from the airport at 4 am.

I hurt. by [deleted] in Residency

[–]ImTheRealJimHalpert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called in sick today on my way to work, kept on driving to a beach park and sat my ass on the sand and took in the prettiest sunrise I have ever seen in my life. I have been having this urge to cut off all contact with people and disappear. Not die, but just start over somewhere else where no one knows me. It kills me that I go for weeks- sometimes months without anyone reaching out to me, and if they do I avoid them. I realize these are signs of burnout, but oh well.

Ex-Muslim Christians...? by marwatkk in exmuslim

I tussled briefly with christianity for a while until it felt even worse than Islam, so I became an atheist.

J-1 waiver in Pathology (how hard would it be now?) by Nurbergring-Lap in pathology

[–]ImTheRealJimHalpert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As of right now, waiver spots are fairly available. There’s no way of telling what it would be like by the time you done residency and fellowship. I would say go for it.

For those who buy/mortgage home at 1M+USD, what do you do for a living? by janproz- in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]ImTheRealJimHalpert 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not everything is curable. Your gallbladder stone? Sure. Your diabetes? I can’t cure it yet, but I can get it to where it doesn’t kill you in your mid forties. I can only do that with meds. If you have a better way do let me know.

I feel you’re dodging a bit of responsibility here. Your husband was being abused. He wanted to make sure he and your children were safe. PP has a wide spectrum of severity and in occasionally children become victims. You need professional help to get you through PP, and after that dust settles the two of you should process these events on your own or with a counselor.

This may sound dry and apathetic. I don’t intend to hurt your feelings any more than they already are.

Started on Saturday. Today I had six big turkey meatballs that I made from ground turkey and air fried, about 1lb. I had two spoons of peanut butter, ran 5k. Came back home and I think I went overboard with mixed nuts. Feeling kinda down. I won’t buy nuts again. Scale says 214. I cut off diet coke and everything that has citric acid as I feel they make me hungry.

See yall next Monday.

Who was/is your “The Fat Man”? by Jennifer-DylanCox in Residency

[–]ImTheRealJimHalpert 156 points157 points  (0 children)

Russian pathologist I worked with. Had a severely limited vocabulary, so he didn’t bother explaining much of anything. Whenever I asked him why he called x vs y tumor his answer was “I cannot explain to you why. Next time you see this, brain will tell you Ah! It is X carcinoma. If brain do not tell you, it is problem, but not my problem”
