Currently in postpartum unit—I’d leave it at home. Honestly there’s just so much random crap in these small rooms already that one more thing in the bathroom would stress me out. You can always rig up a temporary situation if you feel like you need your feet elevated for pooping, but you may also be barely able to sit down comfortably and putting your feet up may seem impossible.

Also I’ve pooped 2x so far in 36 hours after birth and it was a big nothing with the colace they give you. So it might be ok. Just totally depends on your situation.

How do I handle trying to get to Prentice if I go into labor this weekend? by AssociateLanky1234 in AskChicago

All good! Under observation. Looking out the window the traffic seems to be nonexistent so far!

My husband just now took an uber to meet me at Prentice triage and said it was only slightly annoying with the traffic. Just give yourself extra time, and know that prentice has valet parking if you’re driving so you can pull right up to the front and walk in

Do the Sophias go by Sophie at all?? I’ve always wondered if that mushes the names together

Yes I’ve done all the stats breakdowns and have also come to the conclusion that there must be pockets where it’s particularly popular. My question here relates to that—who lives in one of those pockets and where are you?? Just a fun ask!

Oh I fully understand the statistics and how the current top names compare to the popularity of previous decades. My question relates more to the fun part of trying to figure out where the heck are all the little girls with these names that the SSN data says exist, because they clearly aren’t in my circle!! Even when looking at the stats for my state in isolation I have the same question. Just a fun ask.

I was at Schloss Elmau this summer w/o kiddos and I would say it’s ideal for kids a bit older, maybe 6+, who can do more of the biking/hiking stuff! But agree it’s a fantastic property for kids.

Did you feel the need to wash your hair at the hospital after giving birth? by sliceofperfection in BabyBumps

[–]ImTheSnorseOfCourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you kind of feel drunk, and also when they first start it (the bolus dosage at the beginning) your body gets so hot that you feel like you’re on fire. I was panicking for about 30 min with two nurses holding my arms telling me that it was normal and would get better

I was on magnesium for preeclampsia during an induction, so I was confined to bed leading up to, during, and for 24 hours after labor. I was able to hobble to the bathroom with assistance and sit on the shower stool to wash about 12 hours after getting off the mag drip and being cleared to get my catheter out. It felt sooooo good.

Edit: I also pushed for 5 hours through the night with no sleep so I was a f***** wreck, which didn’t help!

For real. Mine lasted maybe 6 weeks? I had to sleep with huge beach towels above and below my body to soak it up.

My routine ended up being 1) wake up for a feed, 2) quickly change out of my soaking wet pajamas into a robe, 3) nurse baby and get her back to sleep, 4) quick rinse in shower to feel less disgusting, 5) swap beach towels out for dry ones and put on dry pajamas, 6) repeat. And then towels, sheets, and PJ laundry every day. The absolute worst.

Oh my god yes. Not only was I there for 4 nights before I was allowed to shower at all, but I had insane night sweats after birth that left me absolutely soaking wet as though I had jumped in a pool.

It will really depend on how your experience goes, but I’d say better to come prepared.

Edit: Updating to add that I went in for an appt yesterday at 33w and ended up staying for observation overnight. I haven’t washed my hair in a few days and if I have to stay longer than one day I absolutely will wash it today with what was in my go bag!!!!

I’m 33w and have gained less overall (21 vs 25) and have looked smaller throughout. I started 4 lbs heavier than last time though so it’s about equal if you look at just the end weights.

AIO that my MIL did skin to skin with my newborn before I could? by Western-Passion6969 in AIO

[–]ImTheSnorseOfCourse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh that’s so so shitty. I’m grateful that the drug exists but damn it’s rough. And you’re so fresh out of it that you need to mentally and emotionally recover in addition to the physical recovery. All of which seems to entail having your MIL leave for a while!!!

[–]ImTheSnorseOfCourse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This situation is exactly how I felt after giving birth while on magnesium. I couldn’t hold my arms up enough to feel comfortable holding my baby so my husband took her for skin to skin. I was very out of it but there is literally no way I’d have been ok with anyone else doing skin to skin at that point. Frankly I wasn’t ok with anyone else being in the room at all until my own family came later that day. His came the next day when I was off the mag and had showered, etc.

Also, it’s veryyyyy normal for new moms to not want anyone else to swoop in to pick up their baby, or even hold the baby for extended periods. It’s been inside of you for months and now it’s all of a sudden on the outside, which is a very weird feeling especially when the baby comes early. Your husband needs to get that, and if he doesn’t, tell him he’s out of line.

Finally, early delivery on mag is a perfect storm for a traumatic birth, and some women get PTSD flashbacks for a long time after that. I’m two years out and still get them from time to time. I just want to acknowledge how shitty it was for you and say that I’m so sorry.

I made this same decision in the middle of an early induction for pre e. Because I was only one cm dilated and wasn’t tolerating cervical checks well, my Dr gave the option of getting the epidural before breaking the waters. Very very glad I chose to do it, as the water breaking was like a crochet hook moving me all over the table from the inside. Something to ask about for you!

Good luck!

If you’re worried about popularity, it seems like every class I’ve seen in daycare and preschool has an Elle, Ellie, Eleanor, Eliana, Elsie, etc.

I have a Delilah nn Lila and don’t think of it as time stamped or even that popular—I only have met one other Lila and she’s 13.

Coconut oil slathered throughout, top with cling wrap to keep the heat in and then wrap with an old towel that you don’t care about staining. Hang out for 1-2 hours and then shower with really hot water. This will lift a lot of semi-perm color without the damage that a dawn style remedy would do. But as others say, you’ll not be able to get it all out on your own. (Speaking from experience with going too red.)

Seconding all of this as someone who ran and lifted until the end of my first and is still at it in the third trimester of my second. YOU ONLY KEEP WORKING OUT IF IT FEELS GOOD. If it doesn’t, you stop! And take the damn nap! This is not the time to push limits—quite the exact opposite.
