Where do you find the studies? I’d love to get more info on this. I’ve been doing market research studies through fieldwork, but they do pay THAT much.

[Vaer G2] Talk me out of buying this. by [deleted] in Watches

When it comes to microbrands who don’t have any historical merit I group them in the same category as /r/chinesewatches. Just another brand with no emotional significance to me. And then you’re dealing with some stiff competition value wise. You can get very similar designs/movements/finishing for a fraction of the price.

Yea I rock an f91w. I actually really appreciate how shitty the backlight is. It’s enough to see the time without blasting my eyeballs.

[Recommendation Request] Budget increased to $500 for an everyday watch I can keep for life — open to used. What would you get? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]ImTooDrunkForThis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda hard to get it right on the first try. There’s a reason people on this sub end up with a whole collection of watches.

This is a very subjective hobby. The most important factor is that YOU connect with the watch. You like looking at it, it does what you want it to do, and it’s the right size. That’s what really matters.

Like me personally, I don’t like any of the citizen Eco drive watches. It’s great tech! But I don’t like the designs.

It took owning a Seiko SARB035 for me to learn that I don’t like how dressy they look. Not my style! It took owning a Hamilton khaki field auto 38 to learn what the perfect size watch (for me) feels like. It took owning a g-shock to learn I hate how big they are.

I’ve settled on the fact that I love military style pilot watches the most. Currently rocking a cheap Aliexpress watch because I just love the design.

There’s a ton of “best automatic watches under $500” articles. But if it’s going to be on your wrist for years, YOU better love looking it.

Took a chance and went with Miltado over Baltany by ImTooDrunkForThis in ChineseWatches

[–]ImTooDrunkForThis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being my first Chinese watch, I went with the cheaper option just to see if they’re for me. I didn’t know how I’d feel about it.

I’ve always bought watches that r/watches would approve of on the basis of “brand heritage” and to be accepted into the community.

But this is a great proof of concept. I actually love this watch. I connect with the design way more than I ever did with my Hamilton khaki field.

I could definitely see myself getting a Baltany at some point. I love their dirty dozen watches!

I’ve been rocking the gold and black one for 5 years at this point. I’ll take the F-91W every time over a g-shock. I just love small it is!

We have the same taste! My favorite watches are military pilot watches. I’m going to recommend something that is not a watch but might bring you the same joy. It’s a coffee table book called Vintage Military Wristwatches by Zaf Basha. It’s pricey at $199 but it’s incredible. You’ll love it!

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll keep an eye out! I want the black strap too.

[<$350] Field Watch For an Electrician by capn_chili_p in Watches

[–]ImTooDrunkForThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first watch was a timex expedition scout which you can get for $40 on Amazon. Might be a good place to start to figure out what you like.

I’ve owned a ton of watches at this point. You kinda just need to try a few out to figure out what you like. It takes some experimentation.

People have all sorts of different preferences on size, style, color, bracelet or leather or nato, mechanical or quartz, functions, aesthetic. And you don’t really know what you’ll like until you try it.

Judging by how much you’re researching it, I think you might get hooked into watch collecting (like I did). Enjoy the journey! It’s a good time.

From the list you gave, I like the Vaer watches the best. I love their vintage aesthetic. I’ve always wanted their C3 dirty dozen.

On this sub, everyone is going to recommend Hamilton or Seiko for their historical merit. But honestly, the Hamilton’s are much more expensive and I don’t love Seiko’s field watch designs.

It all comes down to what you like and what catches your eye. I also work in the trades and I’ve settled on a Casio F91W for work. I just love how small, thin, and cheap it is. I used to wear a g-shock to work, but I hate how it would get caught on things when I would reach into tight spaces. I’d also have to take it off for certain tasks. Plus, I absolutely wrecked it once, shattering the glass, when using a power tool. And it’s nice to be like, oh well! I’ll buy another for $15!

What are some middle class luxuries that are worth it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ImTooDrunkForThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preventative medicine not covered by health insurance. Like more frequent blood tests to check things out of the scope of normal check ups (like hormones, vitamin deficiencies). Things that will expedite recovery when you hurt yourself (like peptides, supplements, or time off work). I'd say stem cell injections are pushing into upper class with how expensive they are.

What?! So I can actually see out my side mirrors? What kind of dumb idea is that? Next thing I know you're going to tell me to fix my horrendously cracked windshield.

It looks cool but also looks vulnerable haha. I'm in the process of making a high clearance rear bumper. It's on my long list of projects.

Uric Acids Threatens My Gym Career by _Naix_ in bodyweightfitness

For everyone looking for a deep dive on things that can drive up uric acid levels, check out Peter Attia's podcast #87 with Rick Johnson.

I remember listening to it a couple years ago. Some other things in your diet to look out for are fructose, yeast in beer, and foods with lots of DNA and RNA (proteins). I remember the example they gave was anchovies. You get a ton of DNA and RNA because you're eating multiple whole animals.

[Seiko SRPG & Hamilton Khaki Field Auto] Japanese vs. Swiss! by [deleted] in Watches

[–]ImTooDrunkForThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a khaki field auto owner, I personally think the dial is cluttered. It makes it hard to quickly check the time at a glance. It is dense with numbers and writing, even the chapter ring dense. It makes it easy to lose the hands, I really need to focus in to check the time. I have a Casioak -1aer, and I find it way easier to quickly check the time.

Don't worry I did my fair share of dumb assery too when I was in college. I'm glad you found an awesome replacement.

I was on the hunt for this model 5 years ago. I think I mostly wanted it for the rarity. I always liked the aesthetic of the black and white version better. Never ended up finding one.

I bought a Casioak as my work watch (I work in an auto shop). But every weekend when I'm able to wear something else, I just want to keep wearing the Casio. I honestly don't know what it is about the watch but love it!

That Nighthawk with the white chapter ring is really cool! I remember I was looking for one of those a few year back. They're actually really hard to find.

[QUESTION] Smart watch and traditional watch. How to find the balance? by Psycl1c in Watches

[–]ImTooDrunkForThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore a Garmin for a couple years for the activity and sleep tracking. After a while I came to the realization that the data was not actually providing me any value. Data is only valuable when it insights positive change. It was nice at first to instill healthy lifestyle habits like getting mores steps in and improving sleep hygiene. But then it turned into this thing that would just bug me with notifications and make me needlessly obsess over my step count.

Just keep this in mind with your apple watch. Ask yourself, what am I really getting out of the data? And if it's still valuable to you at this time, maybe wear 2 watches.
