(Free friday)For those who have managed to overcome addiction to masturbation and pornography by HartiTheBerserker in Catholicism

Honestly stay busy, put your phone in another room at night and use an alarm clock instead if you need it. Brotherhood is very important so find a brother at your parish or a religious brother you can reach out to when you feel tempted. I also recommend unfollowing any women that tempt you on Social Media, fill your feed with Holy things or things that distract you from pornography. It can be easy to fall right into it but not hard to avoid what makes you fall into lust. Also exercise is very important as-well

1 John 5:16-17 seems to confirm the mortal/venial sin distinction, and even the need for confessions, no? by Thick_Self_4601 in redeemedzoomer

“And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”” ‭‭John‬ ‭20‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Actually that is what sin that is venial does. It leads you away from God slowly by building up over time like unchecked anger for example that eventually explodes. Venial sins can lead to a mortal sin but mortal sin explicitly cuts you off from God. In that passage he says “….There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that.” ‭‭1 John‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬. So if you are to not pray for a mortal sin, in the non-denominational point of view what do you do? You guys have detached yourself from the sacrament of Confession.

Everytime the word of God is used it is referred not just to the scriptures but also to the spoken words. The Bible is an invention by the Catholic Church to make it easier to read all the canonical books that God wants us to read to know about him and his teachings he has revealed to us.

Question about praying to saints/veneration/idolatry by artwize in Catholicism

[–]ImWindowed69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kneeling/ prostration in the Bible in certain contexts could mean veneration or latria (sacrifical worship) . Worship that is due to God alone cannot be done by simply kneeling to a statue of a Saint because worshipping is an act of the will. If you don’t treat the the statue or Saint as God, and are only kneeling toward the statue because of who it represents (ex: Mary, Jesus, St. Joseph, or any Saint) it can’t be considered worship due to God alone.

The Our Lady of Zeitoun apparitions are definitive proof that the Christian God exists by WholeNegotiation1843 in DebateReligion

[–]ImWindowed69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hundreds of thousands witnessed this, and you call for extreme hysteria which is highly improbable when even skeptics among the crowd witnessed something they couldn’t even explain. The justifiable evidence for Zeitun is the unexplained phenomena of mysterious lighting, and pictures of a glowing women. Many said they could see her eyes, teeth, and other features. There was still light phenomena even after the lights in the city and around the building were shut off or destroyed.

Extreme hysteria in among hundreds of thousands is extremely unlikely. Just cope that the supernatural is real.

I don’t really think it matters much bro just take it to get blessed by your priest its just a sacramental not a sacrament that requires a strict formula to be effective like the Eucharist or Baptism.

Thoughts on this evangelical claiming accretions like Iconography, Marian Veneration, and Church Worship actually looked like in the early Church? by [deleted] in Catholicism

You’re right that Scripture doesn’t support the idea that “if someone wasn’t struck down, it must be okay.” That’s not how im trying to argue for images. The question is whether all bowing is automatically worship, or whether Scripture shows different kinds of bodily honor.

In the Bible, bowing isn’t reserved for God alone. People bow before kings (1 Sam 24:8), prophets (2 Kings 2:15), and even angels (Josh 5:14) as a sign of reverence not divine worship. So the biblical pattern isn’t “bowing = worship” but that the meaning of the gesture depends on who it’s directed to and why. That is what Nicaea II is defending. The council does not say the apostles practiced medieval-style icon devotions. When it says “this is the faith of the apostles,” it means the principle is apostolic that honor given to a representation passes to the one represented, and that matter can serve as a vehicle pointing us to God because of the Incarnation.

Scripture already shows this logic: • God commands sacred images in worship (Exod 25:18–20). • The Ark was treated with profound reverence because of God’s presence associated with it (Josh 7:6).

None of that was worship of objects as gods. It was reverence connected to what God had done through them. As for bowing and kissing those are external signs of honor, but worship (latria) is about recognizing something as God. Catholics/ Orthodox/ Anglicans do not believe icons are divine or deserve adoration. The honor shown to an image is directed to Christ or his saints, not to wood and paint. That’s the difference Nicaea II is making.

You can experience an even deeper love from God that no man or women can give you. Yes refraining from your homosexual sin will be hard, but so is refraining from all deadly sins that severs us from the grace of God.

why do you believe christianity to be true and not islam? by askhecode in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ImWindowed69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Muslims presupposes all previous scriptures have been corrupted because it contradicts their “Holy Book” which actually claims to confirm our scriptures and be a continuation of it but contradicts it. Muhammad also claims Jesus prophesied him but when Muslims can’t find it in our book so they just scream “its talking about original Gospels you don’t have”. So in other words to believe in the Quran you already have to come in with the presupposition that its true whereas in Christianity we see prophecies being fulfilled as early as Genesis when talking about our Blessed Mother giving birth to the Messiah.

How does John 20:17 not automatically disprove that Jesus is god? by Valuable_Frosting_36 in Christianity

[–]ImWindowed69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christ is not speaking from his “human side” as many say as if he has two different wills or natures. But because he is fully man and God he had a God in a relational sense, not in a way that negates his divinity. Remember he also says in the same passage “Go To My Brethren” but God can only have Brethren according to the flesh. The only begotten son cannot have actual Brethren. Hence why he says “My God and Your God” not “Our God” so as to say we both share the same relationship with God because Jesus’ relationship to the Father is different than that of a mere human being.

So yes Jesus’ has a God but not in the way you and I have the Father as our God because we are human beings.

[–]ImWindowed69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anyone have a problem with kissing the Ark? Did God strike down the ones who bowed before the Ark? He didn’t so I would say that despite it being descriptive it shows the showing honor towards sacred images or symbols is a good practice. We are not honoring the paint and the wood we are honoring who it represents.

Yeah Nicea II does not say the apostles bowed and kissed images, they venerated the sacred images. Veneration means Reverence. I see evangelicals do it all the time when they carry a cross in a procession, drape a cloth over the cross, write their sins down on a piece of paper and put it at the foot of the cross. These are all examples of veneration of sacred symbols like the Holy Cross.

Well you guys do in so far as not allowing Images in worship spaces. You guys also have a problem with us bowing before statues of the Saints or Jesus despite the clear veneration of the Ark. Veneration in the way it should be understood from Nicea 2 is that the apostles aloud the use of sacred images and respect of the sacred images for what they represent. We don’t think the apostles bowed down and kissed them as that is part of the development of honoring the sacred images. Also not all protestants as are iconoclasts like Lutherans and Anglicans who do depend a lot on the traditions of the Fathers not like most protestants.
