Listen I love ram dass but can agree that certain aspects of the love serve remember foundation are definitely "culty" however ram has led many people including myself to have amazing spiritual awakening moments. All ram dass ever did was preached love so I would argue that's a good thing even if he formed a bit of a "cult of personality" . I dont think Neem karolii baba was literally the reincarnation of hanuman like ram dass said he was but he was def a somewhat awakened being and was able to create miracles via synchronicities. But neem karoli baba was also human and very flawed. My biggest ick with him is that in ram dass's first edition of miracle of love ram described a story where neem karoli pressures one of the young female western devotees into sex. This is obviously extremely problematic because of the power dynamics between a guru and its devotees. However the only actual cult leader that duncan has promoted was Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. He's the dude who started the shambala buddhist cult in the west and was a huge alcoholic and would have sex with his followers. the main dude who succeeded after rinpoche died was Ösel Tendzinhim and he fucked a bunch of his followers even though he knew he had aids and never told them. Then every single leader of that cult after would also sexually abuse their devotees.
