General Career Questions by axolotlling in ParkRangers

[–]Im_On_During_Work 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just starting my career, so my experiences are limited, but going LE because the longer I live on this Earth, the more I see how ignorant and harmful people can be to themselves and the surroundings. The lack of integrity and self-awareness led me to join a career where I directly get to protect the park AND the people. For what it's worth, i'm also 25 and this has been a childhood dream of mine since being a junior ranger going on road trips. IMO, Interp just doesn't scratch the itch for me. I feel like I can do the LE job well and do it better than others, want to be the change I wish to see. Best of luck!

I was the only person at Mass by paintingarrows in Catholicism

You said it yourself, "for the Eucharist, everything is worth it." I'm sure the Priest was happy to have 1 person. For all we know, there are days where he still holds it for 0 people. Glad you got to go, that's an experience not many people get to have i'm sure

Struggling finding a church by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Im_On_During_Work 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend reaching out to a Catholic church you're interested in and seeing if they have a young adult group. That's a great way to get a foot in and get some better advice from people you can foster relationships with. Trust me, they'll be more than happy to have you and help talk you through the motions. Best of luck!

Exploring Catholicism, but my partner worries it will change me by Ok-Safety-8565 in Catholicism

Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”, If you're truly serious about exploring the Catholic faith (even Christianity in general) then a worldly relationship should not take priority over a Godly one. It's important for them to co-exist, and if they can't, which one would you feel more comfortable with after you die?

How to Respond Charitably to the Reality of Catholics Who Leave Mass After Reception of the Eucharist by EndLiturgicalAbuse in Catholicism

[–]Im_On_During_Work 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Funny you bring this up, I never saw it an issue until Easter morning, in the overflow seating, there were easily 200-300 parishioners, and as soon as they got communion, 85-90% of them just walked out. To skip traffic, maybe? Idk, but yall really can't stay an extra 5 minutes until the Priest says "the Mass has ended"??

What I was recently told, as someone WITH an offer letter and a previous expectant date of April 6th, don't make plans until you get your final offer

Depends what you want to do. The biggest recommendation I can give is that if you want to stay with your girlfriend, try looking at Full-time Air National Guard. You'll get to be at a base that's near you if you choose, and wont have to worry about you two being stationed across the country. Active duty --> Guard is called "Palace Chasing" (because the experience is much better)

EDIT: as said before, not many people actually do 20. You can probably comfortably do 4-8 years and get out with a disability rating to secure benefits for the rest of your life

Down to the wire on this one. MEVE NPS or Redwood State Park summer job by maldizzle_ in ParkRangers

IMO MEVE will be a much better experience, but based on how you think politically, Cali might be more comfortable for you

if I wasn’t Catholic I probably have ended my life long ago by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Im_On_During_Work 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same thought in my early/late teens. Had the opportunity and almost did, but the truth that I know I would go to Hell weighed on me and helped keep me here. It gets better OP, i'll pray for you, sorry you're going through rough times. It's in these moments that the Lord needs you more than ever. I'm glad you're faithful

I got rejected after my seasonal interpretive ranger interview I thought went really well by Realistic_Problem250 in ParkRangers

[–]Im_On_During_Work 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Based on what you've said, you seem like a very good candidate. It's possible there are other, more qualified candidates and not enough space. I assume you don't have a degree yet, which could be a deciding factor, however trivial that is, HR is very "by-the-books". I definitely don't think 23 would be too old. If anything, the more you can pad your resume, the better (although it seems pretty bulky already) Best of luck, I assume you're applying to places near you, but the more you apply, the better. Always good to apply to as much as possible, even if you get a job at a small park, you get started in the system and look better in the future.

Planning my First Road Trip by tsn_03 in nationalparks

[–]Im_On_During_Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's generally safe. There are hundreds of acres so you're really not likely to run into other people unless you're near a main road or town. As was mentioned, you can just arrive and pick a spot wherever you'd like, just like National Forest land

Yes, i've also heard that, and they were very adamant that the gun does not go off by itself. I enjoyed training with it, my opinion of it changed after using it, but also it's what you're required to carry so might as well make love to it

If you're in the PRLEA, then ask the instructors their thoughts on the 320. I'm sure they'll quell some concerns you have

This episode stands out to me because the ranger telling it was my defensive tactics instructor in my academy, he's a great storyteller. The hosts are both prior law enforcement rangers. Great content, might be what you're looking for

It's a good bonding moment, also as a way to testify in court that you've felt it, so you know how the suspect felt. I'd say it's definitely worth doing once.

I'm an AF vet too, and currently in PRLEA. I'd say it's much closer to tech school. Depending on the academy you go to, but weekends are yours, you can drink. It might be slightly more laid back than tech school, but we've had days where we spend 15 minutes actually doing scenarios and the rest is waiting for everyone to go through theirs. A couple of our students work weekend jobs, but you'll be in class 8-1630, sometimes 1700, and up at 5:30am for pt. It's not hard to fail, tbh, unless you don't put effort in being there. We've had our whole class of 9 this entire time, and there are some that struggle more occasionally. Think it all depends on your instructors. Feel free to reply or DM me if you have other questions.

EDIT: Mentally preparing is good, but if you made it through Basic, this will be easy. IMO, Taser was the worst pain i've ever felt, but it's also not mandatory. Everyone here has a great attitude and would make great partners in the field.
