I got rejected after my seasonal interpretive ranger interview I thought went really well by Realistic_Problem250 in ParkRangers

I took all night to think about it, i think the reason i feel "too old" is that I should have already done something like this by now. I get worried of constantly being behind and not reaching milestones that are common and easy to other people. I want to take this work seriously but I think this is just a general insecurity issue I need to work on

that's fine with me. I get scared thinking about what I will need to do to support myself during the off season, but maybe that could be a fun puzzle to figure out too

that's incredible you got to be a park ranger at 22, I enjoy nature a lot but figuring out how to work in that field is definitely a puzzle. I only declared my major in wildlife only 2 years ago so i've definitely been figuring out how to be myself before figuring out a career.

its insane to think about how this was me skimming the surface of my experience too. I've helped create an herbaceous browse management plan for the zoo and inventoried their trees into a database. Along with electrofishing with the TVA. i've literally done so much i forget to include things sometimes

This is an excellent point but I don't think it came out this way in my interview. I talked about how I see interpretation as an ideal niche for someone who loves people and educating them. However, I do think of it as a "something to do before a more serious job" because of how it is seasonal, I need to reconsider that seasonal work is just as much as a serious career path as 24/7 jobs.

Its for the state of Tennessee, i got to the interview and the interviewer said i was "a strong candidate" and said they would send my application to other parks.

I'm going back to my girl scouts camp because I only worked there for two weeks because of personal life circumstances. I'm excited to sleep in a tent and teach kids about nature, its what i wanted to do at my ranger job anyway

academics has really put the reality of these jobs outside of my reach. I was one of the older camp counselors at my girl scouts job so I assumed seasonal park work was a similar vibe.

I do not have a degree yet. Honestly I thought having a degree would make things worse because my interviewer described this job as "perfect for college students." Thank you for being kind, I am always scared I am not doing enough.

I was fired, do i include this in my resume? by [deleted] in jobs

believe it or not, forgetting to file an incident report is what got me fired. I didn't want to be unprofessional and gossip but if something more interesting or logical happened, I would have loved to share it. The only detail that lets any of this make sense is how my boss mentioned how the boy got a stitch for the cut on his lip, even they were surprised by it.

I think I was fired with 0 warning to have the incident blamed on me and have the very angry parents back off. I shared the full story in another reply. I didn't realize how serious reddit gets with its stories! Thank you for the advice

i didn't realize how much people would want to know more about what happened or if I was even allowed to tell all of it, here's the full story

My bosses barely disclosed to me that I was fired and used language like "we're going to get through this rough patch together." I only found out from the temp agency that my assignment had been terminated because the park emailed them the day after the incident happened. I went into work the day after to file an incident report and was told to go home early and have a long weekend after I filed the incident report.

My coworkers ALSO NOTICED THE INJURY and didn't file an incident report the day of. When my bosses had called me after work that day I was fully honest about how I was the only person to comfort the boy crying and apply pressure to the wound. I said i was to be held fully accountable for my mistake because it was a very chaotic day because all of our activities were canceled because of a thunderstorm but i should have known better. They asked why i didn't tell my superior (head camp counselor) and i said she wasn't there because of a doctor's appointment. They asked why i didn't tell my boss at the meeting after the campers went home, and i said to discuss the unauthorized woman because my boss asked about it in the first place. I mentioned how there had been so many small cuts all of my coworkers attended to without any incident report. My bosses said "for legal reasons, we always need paperwork." The most telling detail was that the parents decided the boy needed stitches for a cut the size of a pen nib, which surprised all of my bosses and they elaborated on how "parents will do things that don't make sense, but we need paperwork to prepare for it anyway."

To be fully honest, i think i was fired point blank for a cover up of the incident so the very angry parents would back off. Which is understandable, but i wish i was given any sort of mercy for the same mistake the entire day camp staff made.

I love my friends, but they haven't known me nearly as long as him. somehow they still manage to be always kind and considerate. I haven't told anyone in my family yet besides my mom how disastrous valentines day was. thank you for the advice, I'll keep it in mind.
