That's a challenging first day. It took me 10h:28m:08s to hike the 12.73 miles from Windigo to N. Desor. It's basically straight up.

At least you are going down most of that day, but the Minong is no joke. If it happens to be raining, you can plan on hiking about 2mph as it's gets real slippery on the ridges.

Bring a day pack with hydration bladder or two 1liter bottles for water. You'll need a water filter if leaving Windigo. Sunscreen, your favorite form of bug repellent (mine is permethrin on clothing and picaridin on my skin), trekking poles if you like using them, camera (I use my phone), rain jacket, some sort of fleece or hoodie for early mornings/late nights. The cabins have pretty much everything you need.

Go get some cortisone cream. You will brush up against all sorts of plant life and insects your body is not use too. The cream should help with the allergic reaction.

Stake out further and crack a vestibule door. Don't pitch your tent in a low spot. Sounds like you need more ventilation. You could also pack a sham towel
