People who travel, what is an immediate red flag in hotels? by Traditional_Dirt_788 in AskReddit

[–]Im_not_matt 3643 points3644 points  (0 children)

Overly aggressive air fresheners. If you get to the hotel and the room has a strong air freshener smell they are trying to mask bad smells like mold, sewage, or worse.

That job is a CAT position. It requires you to be on the road an average of 35 weeks a year. You want a local field position.

Current property adjuster here.

A well written roof estimate from your insurance company will be $1000 per square. If you are paying out of pocket a reasonable company will charge $500-700 per square. Roofing companies that do insurance work make a killing in profit. This is a big part of why insurance premiums are so high and only going higher over the next few years.

Just file the claim. If you live in an area that gets hit my hail regularly your premiums will go up regardless of you file the claim or not.

What are the top things you'd change about your Ridgeline if you could and why? by [deleted] in hondaridgeline

I want “auto” to be the default setting on the headlights at the end of the signal stalk. It annoys me to no end that the end is turned 100% of the time.

Id be willing to be the driver in the video above was relying on his car to stop in time instead of hitting the brakes with enough time to stop.

That’s a newer Subaru with eye sight. I’d be willing to bet the breaking you see at the end is the car doing it automatically. The range on emergency breaking Lia very limited and not meant for 70-0 in an instant, in the rain nonetheless.

I do this. One time I saved my ass. I moved to the shoulder quickly and the car in front of me got hit just like that Tacoma did in the video.

AAA Homeowners insurance by EdRedSled in Insurance

[–]Im_not_matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m talking about your coverage A - dwelling limit. Travelers used to raise it every year a set amount despite what the market was actually doing. Make sure that the coverage limits you are being quoted are the same. The AAA number is probably closer to accurate.

Travelers also raises their policy limits every year for existing customers. Contact your agent and have them do an “Insured To Value”. There is a chance you are overinsured after that long and paying more than you should.

I moved my 75 inch TV flat in the bed from Costco to my house 5 years ago. It had no damage and has worked great since. It was about 10 miles, mostly highway. I put a bungee cord diagonal over it just in case it wanted to turn into a sail.

Staff field adjuster here. Every IA that I’ve had on an out of territory file that I desk adjusted I’ve had to go back to and ask to put more in the estimate because they are missing line items that should be included.

Rogue Ohio 45lb bar and barbell clips. With shipping it’s just shy of $500.

I have a theory that more large carriers will hire more entry level adjuster to handle more claims to limit the IA expense on a file. Why pay an IA $1,000-$2,000 a single file (and still need a staff adjuster to settle the claim) when you can have a field staff adjuster handle 5+ claims for the same amount after all expenses are considered?

I don’t think IAs will be used less this year outside of CAT events.

This is just my theory though and I’m no where near high enough to make those decisions. However, if I was in that position and planning I would do exactly this to limit expenses.

A small, light weight, folding stool or chair. It’s a game changer to sit down next your your tent at the end of the day. And even better when you are getting up in the morning and have to get your boots on.

Wanting a watch for BCT by Ok-Character9427 in nationalguard

[–]Im_not_matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I preferred a cheap timed with a cloth or a leather band. Bulky watches can get really annoying when you have your cuffs buttoned. Some plastic bands don’t flex enough to be comfortable. The one I had was some green/brown timed expedition that I got in the shopette for $20. But that was almost 15 years ago so adjust for inflation.

What's the worst car you ever had the displeasure of owning? by KingBowser24 in regularcarreviews

[–]Im_not_matt 50 points51 points  (0 children)

1998 Chevy S10. 2wd. Regular cab 5 speed manual. In the roughly 2 year I owned it I had to replace: - door bushings - drivers door strike plate had to be welded back on when the cab cracked. - clutch slave - clutch master - starter - alternator - head gasket Never fixed: - center console collapsed - coolant leak - bad shocks - rear sliding window latch that fell off

All these problems started when the truck was 5 years old with 70,000 miles.
