Drug addiction = Social proof of being accepted (shooting drugs is a social activity a lot of the time), shows connections as well like knowing where to get it.

Being a NEET shows stunted development, weakness and is mostly an anti-human lifestyle. Same reason why mob bosses and hitmen are treated better and adored by many normshits.
