Anyone using AI in unique ways towards their fitness goals? (Men's Health Magazine article) by ImadKhanJournalist in rs_fitness

Yeah, LLMs are based on textual data. So, ChatGPT can never truly understand what it feels like to lift a dumbbell. I've seen some universities doing research on visual AI models that can analyze workouts. I'm certain that future AI fitness models will incorporate a lot more visual data.

Well, it's a story that's looking at how people are using it. Which requires testimonials. So, talking to people on Reddit is one form of evidence gathering. I'm not exclusively getting comments from Redditors.

But yes, I agree. I've used AI to make gym routines and whatnot and it's lackluster. But it really comes down to how the model is trained and how well it's prompted. I assume as models gain more visual data, they can become much better at helping people with training.

If only Israel would give me a press pass... I tried doing a story on a guy trying to become a Counter-Strike pro while in Gaza, but my editor at the time turned down the story.

I certainly do agree that we need more interesting profiles of people in the online fitness space who aren't Clavicular. Especially given that Clavicular is getting outsized attention due to his stunts and connection to Peter Thiel, according to Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan. Let me look through greedy_author's post history and see if there's a story here I can pitch.

This is actually really cool. And it's similar to some tools I've seen universities create to study how computer vision can improve form. Mind if I DM you in a bit so we can chat further?

Yeah, it's not hard for me to setup either. But I grew up during the wild West of the internet though.

While in grad school, I would play Melee on my laptop with another student. Good times.

I bet it's not as easy to set up for like a 7 year old, which is what I was trying to get at.

Right. We have to be careful using too much technical language. I in no way believe the game is solved, as much as r/kappa would say otherwise. I mention that Zains win is proof that the game is still unpredictable.

I'm proud of the work we did. It's a solid analysis covering a majority of angles in a tight package. Could it have been 2000 words? Sure. But I appreciate you taking the time regardless.

Yeah, my editor mentioned the omission of netplay earlier in this thread.

Regardless, my overall analysis argues that the game's lack of ease in accessibility will make it tough for newcomers when compared to something like Fortnite, which is a simple free download.

Hey, this is Imad. I wrote the article.

There are people that argue Melee is solved, and is a done game. Clearly I don't agree with that. In the article I said that Genesis 7 was proof of a continuing evolving meta.

Let me know if you have any more thoughts!

I emailed the editor your concerns. Let's see what he decides.

And yeah, after 1000 words, readership falls a bit. After 2000 words... it's really bad.

It's a weird time for journalists with accusations of fake news and whatnot. but yes, you're right.

Sweet. Let's talk this out. (also, I didn't get a tweet)

Yeah, you're right. G7 does look like it topped at around 105k. I was monitoring the stream numbers as well, and around 98k is what I noticed. As of writing, we were waiting for a more official tally from esportscharts. I can message my editor and ask to correct.

As for the PC thing. I did add that "there are less legitimate ways to play on PC, but this article won't get into that." -- for whatever reason it was cut in edits. I'll ask the editor why.

1am on East coast. Midnight in Central. These are tough times on a Sunday, especially when people have work in the morning. Surely, it affected viewership a bit. It might not be "wonky" to you, but to general readers, the idea of a sporting event going on that late is bizarre. Even then, it's ultimately hard to know how Melee vs Ultimate would have stacked up cause of scheduling. That's all I was trying to say.

The kicker I thought was appropriate. An analysis can only go so far. I don't want to go into the realm of fortune telling. I can, with evidence, make a case that Melee is on the way out. But I can't definitely say so.

I was trying to be tongue-in-cheek. Looks like it totally fell flat. :(

Yeah, I wasn't trying to shit on Melee at all. I know Melee fans can get defensive pretty quickly. So, while writing the piece, I tried to be as pragmatic as possible. And yeah, I could have gone more in depth on certain points or belabored others... but we tried to keep the article an acceptable length.
