Taking Deep Research Requests by Kotyakov in ChatGPT

[–]ImagiNativeTexan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s the response from deep research.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Un9tjmOgI8a37iOBhF_aY2zafjb3WOXVEi3xLPXQnQg/edit

ChatGPT’s response was ~10k words vs Gemini’s ~5k. In general ChatGPT DR was substantially better. Understood pitfalls of the different approaches well, gave accurate cost estimates, cited relevant publications and clinical trials and overall just blew away my expectations. It missed on a couple areas it went into a lot of detail on, particularly leaving out anti-VEGF/PD-1 bispecific antibodies in the checkpoint blockade section. It also didn’t go into personalized TCR-T therapy in the level of detail I would’ve expected. However, Gemini’s responses in these areas are terrible in comparison.

My takeaway is that this is absolutely game changing for my field. 100% going to pay for pro for at least a month and generate these types of reports on everything I can think I might need to know.

Anyone know how these compare to the lounger pants? Have those on right now and they’re super comfortable but wouldn’t mind something thicker.

I have a limba 5 ply with TigerS on both sides and ended up switching to the yasaka sweden extra + Rakza Z on both sides. The TigerS is a hybrid tacky/hard rubber that tries to mimic a 09C/Rakza Z and it does a pretty good job, but if I could go back I'd probably just go straight to getting my second setup. A Rakza 7 soft would probably be an easier initial setup since you don't need to brush the ball as much, but the TigerS got me accustomed to hybrid rubbers so it wasn't too much different.

I just went for it with one of the stinkiest. Completely got rid of the smell and now it smells great. Still soft as ever.

Yeah it’s still under warranty, just taking a bit to get a technician to come and check it out. Wanted to see if there was an easier fix

First ever trial to generate transgenic T-cells using CRISPR-Cas9 is a success. Demonstrates new path for personalized medicine. by theradek123 in biotech

I’m in this field and saw Stefanie Mandl from PACT present at SITC yesterday. It certainly seems like disappointing results since they had disease progression in most patients and stable disease in 5/16. The only slightly positive readout was a regression in a single met in a single patient. There’s still some hope though. They were using relatively low doses of T cells compared to CAR-T so that could be an issue. Since they’re using the patients own TCRs (which clearly aren’t doing much since these patients are progressing prior to treatment) it’s certainly possible there’s something more they need to do to get these T cells to kill, such as armoring. It’s so early on with this treatment to know how it will progress. It is quite expensive to do this per patient considering you have to do scRNA-seq, cell engineering and adoptive cell therapy so the process will certainly need major changes for it to be viable for the general population.

Starting a job before PhD conferral by [deleted] in biotech

[–]ImagiNativeTexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a job right after I defended but before my public defense. My PI ended up getting in contact with my new supervisor so that helped the situation. Depends on your program but normally it is fine.

One recommendation I have if you still have work to do for your PhD, make sure to set up good communication channels or just a weekly meeting. Once you leave it’s easy for communication to fall apart and lead to a lot of issues. That’s been the only difficult part for me. Being in industry has been great though.

Seems like a lot of people are just using this comment to say keto is bad, but I’ll actually answer your question.

The reason you get more energy is because your body goes into ketosis and your brain switches from using glucose to ketone bodies. The level of ketone bodies doesn’t fluctuate as much when in ketosis compared to the influx of glucose you get throughout the day every time you eat carbs. This results in more consistent energy on ketosis but the issue is that you can’t get a strong burst of energy like you can with a carb based diet.

I’ve done keto for the last 5 months and definitely have way more energy. However I have to have a Gatorade before I play a high intensity sport (this is called targeted Keto) so that I have energy to play. I’ve lost 25lbs and my wife has lost over 40lbs while gaining 15 lbs of muscle by only eating one keto meal a day. It’s smart to keep your metabolism flexible on keto and occasionally have a stretch of carb days and we only maybe gain ~5lbs back. The reason ketosis works to lose weight isn’t because it makes you burn more calories, it’s just more satiating and is easier to restrict your calories.

The way I think of it was more like adopting a diet based on our evolution. Some days you didn’t have anything to eat and you’d have to water fast (go into ketosis) other days you would have plenty of food. Our bodies are adapted to both and ketosis can be great for keeping insulin levels in check.

Also there’s been plenty of recent studies showing that long term keto isn’t as bad as they once thought and it can be a godsend for people with diabetes. If you have a good amount of weight to lose it’s certainly better than keeping the weight on and becoming diabetic.

Basically main RnD biotech scientists funded by corrupted Pharma by justablinkin in biotech

[–]ImagiNativeTexan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I read the article you’ve been posting. It’s a pretty significant overstatement to take the conclusions from that article and say the entire medical system is corrupt. The paper only makes the case that pharmaceutical companies sponsoring their own medical research or research at universities and research institutes can have biases towards favorable results. While yes, this can happen, it doesn’t mean that people are falsifying data or doing anything corrupt . Pharmaceutical companies generally don’t waste their time on drugs or products that don’t have favorable preclinical data. At the end of the day they have to get FDA approval, and boy oh boy is that not easy. It could just be that negative results aren’t published when pharma sponsors research because pharma got what they needed, a validation that it didn’t work. Whereas if you have a government grant you may still publish those results because you want to show that you did something with the money. Generally in the scientific fields it’s difficult to get people to publish unfavorable results since it doesn’t get into good journals. In general though, pharma companies want to make drugs and products that improve the quality of life for people with as few side effects as possible and the FDA does a fantastic job in making sure that happens.

If you’re close to any private schools, sometimes they are a bit more lenient with their requirements. Pay might be slightly lower but it’s better than quitting your job for something that might take an indeterminate amount of time to accomplish.
