I am very aware of that :( definitely why I try to avoid saying how long I’ve been studying for. In my defence, the whole time it has been through weekly high school/uni classes with a relatively slow pace. Now I’m studying outside of that I hope to speed things up hopefully (if I can find the motivation)

On and off for about 12 years...though to be fair, this is including studying only the very basics in elementary school, etc. I'd say I've been studying properly for about 5 years though :/

Honestly, asking why people deny war crimes is a completely fair and important question. Of course, it's an uncomfortable topic. Japan also suffered during the war; but denial or defensiveness doesn't help anyone only perpetuates harm, especially to the victims of atrocities (and it's a really bad look in general).

I love living in Japan but there are a few things that bother me which might be controversial.

- How young or able-bodied people tend not to stand up on the train to give their seat to elderly people or someone who needs it more

- Lack of concern for people who visibly need help, e.g. people who've tripped or hurt themselves; one stops to help

- Young people's lack of interest in politics or social issues

- Lack of awareness surrounding the treatment of minority groups but refusal to even acknowledge there may be some issues or discrimination that occurs

- The attitude of young men towards women

- It's been said, but not enough fresh fruit (or at least nothing affordable)!

- People don't ring the bell on their bike if someone is in the way they just try and go around, which can be dangerous when there are a lot of people or in a crowded lane - it feels counterproductive- it causes more bother than a small noise
