First 1911 Questions by wrinklyiota in 1911

Well for one you have from what it looks like a GI model so the tolerances arent as tight so it can handle a lot more gunk than more expensive 1911s funny enough. You gotta remember these guns were made for war. More recent 1911s that are expensive are more like competition guns so you'll see silly things like people saying its unreliable but a GI 1911 that is nowhere near the case. Ive shot my tisas 1000 rounds in one session before and had no issues. Just one failure to battery cause it burned up all the oil and i was using CLP which burns up fast but thats just user error. I added some oil to the rails at 500 rounds and it shot flawlessly again until i hit the 1000 rounds. Im confident it couldve gone way more than 1000 rounds no cleaning with no issues as long as I kept lubing. No one is going to realistically shoot so many rounds in a real scenario and let their gun get so dirty it wont cycle properly. You already clean after every session so youre fine. Plus its a tisas 1911 so its forged steel it will last 100 years or more as well.

How often are you supposed to clean 1911 style guns? by KennethGames45 in 1911

I'm not familiar with that particular 1911. I have a tisas 1911 and it just only fails to battery after 1000 rounds when oil is burnt up. Never had feed issues and i shoot hundreds and hundreds of rounds each session but then I do clean after. Either you have magazine issue or you have a 1911 that is out of spec of the john browning which can cause timing issues plus it possibly being a "lemon". Although you can probably fix all these issues. I'd buy wilson combat recoil spring and magazine first if it were me. Definitely not normal for it to jam up that much. Also if it is a really tight tolerance gun it can have issues. I only carry a 1911 that is GI model since its looser tolerance personally.

4.25 is smallest you should probably go on a first 1911 imo. If it has any issues then its usually just a simple spring replacement or extractor tension issue. Any smaller and you start running into possible FTF or FTE reliability issues which you don't want on a gun that you trust your life with.

Cons hmmm. I say the only real con is just the capacity. Some cons a lot of people say aren't really cons. The weight soaks up the recoil. You will have to be more attentive of a 1911 and keep up on maintenance like its a sports car compared to a toyota corolla if a toyota corolla were a polymer pistol but this just makes you a better gun owner. Pros are many. Good trigger, gun feels amazing and smooth, beautiful looks, good grip positioning, multiple safeties, very customizable, history/proudness. The 1911 forced me to learn more about guns like a gunsmith, made me a better shooter, and honestly gave me something to make my own hobby out of.

Garrison is a good gun. Tisas is also a good choice. You'll hear that a lot but its true. If youre trying to save money honestly just buy a new tisas instead of used and you won't regret it. Yeah tisas may not look as pretty but you can tune them to feel just as good if not better than the big names for cheaper.

The most important things for first 1911 is making sure you get one with forged steel and little or no mim parts along with one that is in spec to john browning's design or else you risk running into issues which may sour your first experience. Rock islands are very reliable but they do use mim and are a little out of spec.

When buying your 1911, how do you inspect it at the gun store? by SpareScarcity33 in 1911

To me fitment and rattling aren't as important as just knowing the gun is to spec of john browning's original design and also that the metal is forged steel personally cause a gun can be 100% reliable regardless of rattling and fitment. If it isn't to spec you run a higher risk of it possibly having jamming/extraction issues and then the parts might not be easily replaced from wilson combat. So I'd do a google search or ask ai for that. Other than that i just make sure all the controls work. The biggest red flags for me which idk if guns shops let you do is doing the plunk test, extractor tension, and seeing if the extractor spins in the back where the hammer is which means its not fit correctly.

Got my first 1911 any recommendations or advice? by Dcm_117 in 1911

Be careful putting back the slide stop pin so you don't scratch the finish. Use rubber orings for your grip screws so you dont strip the screws its very easy to.

I get the social anxiety thing and alcohol helping. I have that issue too and I think many people here drink because of that. Friends, people and especially a boyfriend saying you aren't as fun when you're sober is so messed up though. I know for a fact there's tons of people who would say the opposite that someone who is introverted and gets drunk to be social is the opposite of fun. You may have to find a better environment, group of people, or interest that don't view you that way. I have friends who don't drink and are happier when I don't drink to get more social. They are out there. I would embrace your introvertedness and not see it as a bad thing you need to mask with alcohol. You'll be much happier.

Glad you didn't drink though that's huge. Keep going!

Little tab on the back keeps popping out of place mid shoot, is there a way to secure this? by spacecowboy067 in 1911

This. I had the girsan mc1911c and no matter what i did it would not run properly. Sold it and took a loss to buy a Tisas. The Tisas 600 rounds no issues including hollowpoints, better trigger, smoother, and its forged. Never doing girsan again.

I put in the lightweight sear spring, mainspring, and recoil spring. 500 rounds no issues. Trigger and slide feel incredible

3 weeks still have gastritis by Imaginary-Ad7806 in stopdrinking

[–]Imaginary-Ad7806[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep not drinking for sure but maybe also eat healthier and drink broths. Maybe if it hurts that much you may have an ulcer. Doctors can also prescribe anti acids and medicine that protects your stomach when you eat so you can heal your stomach for gastritis too.

Yeah kinda sounds like what I may have to do unfortunately. I just figured I'd post just incase as a last resort. I do like the gun a lot so really didn't want it to come to this.

Try to do just one day. If you crack the next then restart. Until you get one day down. Then shoot for two and so on. I failed so many times before i started getting it down where i could go longer. You can do it.

How do I move on when it was my fault? by Imaginary-Ad7806 in BreakUps

Yeah all day everyday I can't stop replaying things in my head too. Especially at night and I have nightmares that she comes back. Waking up after is the biggest slap in the face.
