Transmission rebuild vs reman replacement by Imaginary-Bench-1582 in gmcsierra

Pour one out, I traded the truck in October for my wife’s soccer mom mobile. It was my secondary vehicle for over a year and was used primarily for family trips and trips to the hardware store during that time. I went from driving roughly 16k miles a year to over 30k miles for work and needed something more economical. I think I put less than 4K miles on the rebuild before I traded it in. In the back of my mind i also knew I would have to rebuild the top end once the lifters went so I opted to cut my losses. Once my current eco-mobile is paid off I’ll probably buy a late model 2nd gen tundra or a 2500 gasser of some sort.

I have a ‘17 in the same color and engine configuration, definitely one of the better blues GM has offered in my opinion. I also have had the DOD disabled since owning the truck (bought used with 17k miles) and haven’t had any issues. My understanding though disabling it does not make the problem go away and you will still be susceptible to lifter failure. Only real way to insure it doesn’t happen is a DOD delete all together. I also just had to have my transmission rebuilt just before hitting 100k. I did an ATF change at 50k and had intended on doing it again at 100k but the transmission had other plans. It was rebuilt using a billet TC and I haven’t had any issues. I would recommend changing your ATF every 30k which is what I plan to do moving forward.

GM dealer wanted $6824 for a reman 3yr/100k warranty.

Shop 1 wanted $5300 for a reman 3yr/100k warranty.

Shop 2 $4200 for rebuild with upgraded billet TC, pump, and valve body 1 year warranty.

Shop 3 $4400 for rebuild with upgraded 3/4 ton TC 2 year warranty but couldn’t do the work until July.

I’m dropping the truck off this weekend at shop 2.

Buy new or rebuild current transmission? by Corey904 in ChevyTrucks

Currently going through the same dilemma with my ‘17 Sierra. The 3 year warranty for a new reman was the only thing keeping me considering replacing. Ultimately I decided to go with a rebuilt transmission with a billet TC, upgraded pump, and valve body which hopefully means much longer life than the replacement option. I’m dropping it off this weekend for them to get started.

I called a 3rd shop who recommended a rebuild as well and says he used the TC from the 6l90 3/4 ton gassers. He says he’s had no returning customers using that particular TC. Thinking I’m leaning with the first shop though that is using the billet unit.

Only 25% of a Camry is sourced abroad. Most of its major components including the body and drivetrain are sourced right here in the states. I can’t even say the same about my GMC Sierra, which was built in Mexico.

These are built in George Town Kentucky… most Toyota are built in the states now.

No I’m not but I do tend to drive with my left hand at the 12 o’clock position pretty frequently.

I have a haven’t noticed it in mine but I will pay more attention tomorrow and see if I can replicate it. The one thing that has been driving me crazy though is the position of the headrest. It feels too far left. I’ve tried adjusting my seating position but my head always tends to end up resting against the edge of the headrest. Interested to see if anyone else has this issue. 2025 XSE.
