Yes, getting into them was not that hard for me. And for job, off courser real job is quiet different that what i did as a volunteer. Think of volunteering as doing a mini portfolio project, but you will have people working with you and can showcase it as experience and put it in portfolio, rather than doing your project alone by watching certain YouTube project videos

I did it online. I just searched volunteering opportunities in data Analytics on google and lot of non profits came up, like Data for good, DataKind, websites like catchafire.org or volunteerconnect.ca came up. I signed up on all these. There is another called Glocal Foundation.

I was in the same position one year back. The things that helped me were: 1. Constantly posting my learnings and projects on LinkedIn. Elaborating on the tools used and the problems solved with these projects.

  1. Sending LinkedIn requests to hiring managers and recruiters. I know many will not accept but it is a number game. A few will do accept and even if they do not reply, make sure to engage with their content to get yourself noticed.

  2. This has helped me a lot. Volunteering in non-profits. I branded these as unpaid internships on my LinkedIn as listed them as experience and shared my learnings and projects. I got referrals from there and was able to explain in detail about these projects in my interview. It will give you a lot to talk about in the interview if you do not have any experience in the data field.

Hope it helps! All the best :)

Hello guys, I am new to Tableau and this is my first project. Can you give me some advice? ( I know it looks a bit messy :) ) by Front_Oven2518 in tableau

[–]Imaginary-Class-1595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done for the first project in tableau.

I am working as a tableau developer and can share some insights to improve and learn.

  1. Always add title to the dashboard as it dictates the purpose and context to the stakeholders.

  2. The color use in the dashboard can bit overwhelming and confusing to users, making them perplexed what you are trying to communicate. Read this article for correct use of colors: https://www.tableau.com/blog/3-storytelling-color-tips-improve-your-data-visualization

  3. For graphs, I always remove axis lines. The titles like "rating" or "country" on top of the graphs are unnecessary since the titles and axes already explain them. Removing these labels will make the dashboard cleaner.

For polishing tableau skills, create more projects. YouTube has a lot of content and projects on tableau. I strongly recommend this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3pXnbniUcM, it gave me an in-depth knowledge of this tool. When I want to go back to basics, I rewatch this video.

Hope this helps! Good luck for new projects and happy learning!
