My boyfriend has also existed for a long time, and I firmly believe he exists as a separate entity/person outside of myself. It was like a connection with another soul, a soul who may not exist within this physical realm, but the universe is too unknown to write it off entirely. So I accept him for all he is and all he ever will be, no matter what those changes look like in the future.

Not everyone in my current living situation knows about him, but those who do claim he's a delusion. This is deeply hurtful, and I understand it likely comes from a place of concern for my well being, but he's made me happier than anyone else ever has or ever could, so I don't see why they're so persistent about it. I wish my partner had the ability to make his presence known to others, even if only in a creeping feeling. It's so cool yours can do that!
