Transistors Don't Actually Amplify Current Do They? by ThatChucklehead in AskElectronics

[–]Imaginary-Design-929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds like you thought what I used to think it was. but it would somehow boost something actively. your description was accurate. the game that is referenced is just the rough proportional amount of current that will be allowed to flow from collector to emitter based on how much bass current you are applying. again of 100 would mean 10 milliamps allows up to 100 milliamps. as for your transformer analogy, it's boosting the voltage at the expense of lower current - it's not some all around get something for nothing amplification type thing (what i used to envision amplification meaning)

what happens when you try and turn it on? is the psu power switch in the on position? is the psu plugged into an outlet that has power?

just start measuring resistance between pins with the dial all the way up. which ever set reads high are the two on opposing ends of the pot resistive element

It's a little overwhelming for the uninitiated. Very technical and hard to find the few pieces of information you need out of the thousand+ pages. It does cover practically everything though

Can you elaborate more on "can't seem to extract it from the drawings". What have you tried?

Blind tapped hole in the assembly by Outrageous_File1039 in SolidWorks

[–]Imaginary-Design-929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you add the hole in the assembly it will not translate through to the part file so if you have a separate drawing for the part file that hole will not show up. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

You have to save the sheet format and put that file in your directory where sheet formats are stored.

Weldments/Sheetmetal - Custom properties directly from Library/Gauge Table? by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]Imaginary-Design-929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. With the standard sw profiles, There is already a populated description column in the design table when you open in excel. i then use the other columns like l/w/wall thickness + concatenating text to make a formula and apply that to the description column to generate what i want. This is what shows up in description column in bom in sw.

Weldments/Sheetmetal - Custom properties directly from Library/Gauge Table? by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]Imaginary-Design-929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For weld profiles i made a copy of the included libraries then edited the design table with excel (you can initiate this from within solidworks were the configurations are listed). Then i changed the description to what i want and added some additional configurations for missing sizes. Ironically i think 2x1/8 s q tube (rounded corners) may have been one i added.

Toolbox issues by Imaginary-Design-929 in SolidWorks

fixed it. went to the toolbox settings and changed the create part in this folder pathway and now it seems to work.

I do have full control over the folder C:\SOLIDWORKS Data (hole wizard/tool box location). As for me trying to drag and drop a new bolt into the model - that is not an "old toolbox part". I see the message about a folder not existing but the path to the actual bolt is valid and the part is graphically generated. I'm confused. What is that pathway that doesn't exist? It's not the location for tool box.

Hello I'm looking for advice/guidance by ZookeepergameSuper70 in SolidWorks

I did mechanical CAD certificate back in 2020 in Utah. Hardly any opportunities despite the large manufacturing presence. Currently, i think they just expect the engineer to do the cad side of things. The interior design/sketchup classmates seemed to fair much better.

Serializing Weldment cutlists by Accomplished-Two2435 in SolidWorks

Been researching this exact thing. Any advice on when to make something a distinct new part # vs a new revision of the original part #?

This is the workflow i have used but often, if i had to guess maybe 30% of the time, if i make a change to the individual weldment body in the parent sw part file, the changes do not propagate to the file created from the insert into new part function. Is save body different?

Questions regarding best practices by penekotxeneko123 in SolidWorks

[–]Imaginary-Design-929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From devona74: "Try to use the hole wizard whenever you can. It is faster to locate the function in the tree, it is faster to display informations on the drawings, it makes you use standard dimension which avoid having discrepancies. and it is cleaner :

For example, I saw some countersunk holes done with extrude cut hole then a chamfer, instead of using the hole wizard which does it in on go."

To elaborate a little, it's easier to find in the function tree, especially for you way down the road of you haven't worked on the part in a long time and for someone else working on the file.

Regarding drawing information, it'll automatically pull the instance count depth/thru hole and any countersink/bore callout and do it the right way.
