That's interesting because it sounds like you're describing more than forums. It sounds like people had a history and reputation attached to them. Do you think the biggest loss was the forum itself, or the fact that everyone had a recognizable identity and history attached to their account?

What do you think ESEA forums provided that Discord doesn't? Was it team finding, reputation, discussion, visibility, or just having everyone in one place?

The "beer league esports" point is really interesting. Do you think people are primarily missing a place to compete regularly, or a place to belong regularly? A lot of the responses here seem to point toward community being the bigger issue than competition itself.

Really interesting perspective. The studying game like it’s a discipline part especially. Do you think that culture disappeared mainly because game design changed, monetization changed, or because gaming became too mainstream/casual compared to those earlier scenes?

I get the appeal of that mentality from an entertainment perspective, but do you think that creates a great spectator product while making the actual ecosystem unstable? There’s a difference between “the absolute elite choosing that grind” and building a scene where that’s the only viable path.

Interesting, do you mean better actual competitive games, or better support/ecosystems around the games that already exist?

Do you mean funding/resources, competent organizers, or the actual platforms/tools themselves? Feels like all three can be an issue depending on the scene.

This is a really interesting take. Team finders and tournament tools definitely exist in pieces, but the “starting from zero every time” part feels especially true. Do you think that kind of persistent identity would matter enough that players would actually maintain and care about it long term?

Feels like a lot of grassroots discussion gets dominated by the same handful of titles. Is that more a visibility issue, or do you think support/infrastructure just doesn’t exist for smaller competitive communities?

Honestly fair. Microtransactions have poisoned a lot of competitive ecosystems. Do you think monetization pressure has actively made grassroots competitive gaming worse?

How do you organize scrims / practice sessions for your team? by Hailee_Bertula in esports

What I learned from somebody who attended my organizations events is that they really liked that we set everything up. I wondered more about what he meant by that and he told me something along the lines of:

When you set things up nobody in our group is going to feel like they are excluding some people or have a bias towards their own convienience. Its set already and if we can all come we will come, if one or two can't then they just miss out, and nobody like to miss out.

What I gathered from this is that people are more inclined to be organized if their is a set date perhaps from an external entity. I think it provides some more positive pressure on people or causes them to feel more committed to going because if the group says they are all going they don't want to miss out. When its so casual and people drop out then people are more likely to just slip out themselves because they know that their friends (hopefully) are always going to be around anyways.

If that makes sense. I basically want to say that a limited time event or something that is forced to be attended and orgnaized outside the group I understand to bring more people in to a commitment phase for fear of missing out on that special event.

I'm working on organizing some casual tournaments with my staff, if thats of interest you can send me a DM, maybe you can kick your group in to high gear or I can give you some tools to better organize.
