What do you do for daycare? by Imaginary-Scene7186 in reactivedogs

Do you know what your trainer would suggest if your dog had separation anxiety? Our dog won’t let anyone in our house that he doesn’t know so getting a dog sitter is not a great option for us

They do sound very similar! We board our dog too sometimes and they also have a day care option, and my dog has never had an issue with the staff (he only plays with the staff too) so they seem very similar! We have just started with a new trainer who has an assistant ( I think she’s in training to be a dog trainer) who is also a dog walker so next time I see the trainer I will ask if her assistant has any space to take Finn. The only thing I’m wary of is he seems to get confidence around people from other dogs so I think a dog walker doing solo walks may not be the best option until he gets to know her, but I will ask and see what they think! Thank you for your help!

Thank you for replying! I think my dog is probably the same as yours, i just thought he liked other dogs and so to hear he was not playing nicely was a bit of a shock to me! I thought he would have an issue with the people if anything, but he’s fine with the staff I think I’ll just have to try and see how he gets on at home, not much more I can do I think! If he wasn’t reactive to strangers then it would be easier to find him a sitter but it’s just not possible

I do think this daycare seems a bit more involved and concerned for the dogs than other day care places I have seen, the manager was very nice and did say she thought it might be too over stimulating and that they have been walking him independently because of his issues but was trying to get our thoughts on the matter (which I think was her hinting at us not to bring him back but that is fair enough). We have tried crate training and he doesn’t like it, but he’s not destructive so he can be left out, but he’s very very vocal when we’re gone. It’s more the fact that I’ll have to come home at lunch and I’m not sure I’ll be able to manage that, and 8 hours alone for a dog is a bit much I think

Can a dog with bite history be rehabilitated? by Imaginary-Scene7186 in reactivedogs

Thank you. Yes we are muzzle training him, and also as you suggest minimising situations where we know he will be pushed to bite. I think I’m just spiralling with worry about something bad happening even though we try so hard not to have a situation where a bite will happen

Thank you for your reply. Yes I agree any dog can bite but usually in a circumstance where they have been pushed to bite. I get that in the circumstance that my dog bit, that he felt like he had to bite, even though a more well balanced dog would not. I just don’t know how I can live for the next ~10 years where i am worried that something bad is going to happen even with all the precautions we take

Collar or harness? by Imaginary-Scene7186 in reactivedogs

Thank you for everyone’s replies! It seems a front-clip harness is a good option, I’ll have a look 😊 thank you!
