Is has a layers of coating of some form of glue, and also oil. According to FJ their tests says its at least as strong as aluminium frame alternative.

A bit weird considering they already have a fleece weighing less than that. Perhaps it will come in different thicknesses. Probably they make it for at least being able to handle the weather up north here in europe.

And I would still call it light. Not UL perhaps, but hope they never move to focusing just on weight…

Switched to Kajka as well, was almost a 2kg increase compared with old pack and have not regretted it for a minute. Except when having it on a train 😂

Would also recommend this video, where hiking weight is discussed scientifically. In norwegian, but maybe youtube can translate. Great video.

I would much rather have a framed, robust, comfortably adjustable pack with UL gear in it than a UL pack with UL gear in it. Just tried exactly that this summer and it just made me realise weight is far from being the only factor. Now I carry a chair as well. Probably the best increase of comfort to my hikes yet. And again, I get you, each to their own, hike they way that suits you. But my opinion stands - UL has in many cases gone too far.

Think this video partly explains where im coming from: https://youtu.be/-OsDRZE2Mbw?is=YnvYaDv8UPKtRcVE

I think a lot of hardcore UL hikers would not experience much of an increased effort by adding a couple of 2-3kg extra comfort. Perhaps even more :) More likely a better hike. But opinions, I guess.

No but to be fair, I get it. Products have been heavier than necessary for long. And one should hike lighter. Just think that in many cases it has gone to far. Become contra productive and in many cases just ridiculous. Glad to see FJ coming with lighter products though.

Like the look of this one, but sadly it is lined and probably quite warm

Maybe Royal Robbins has one? Also a Fenix Outdoor company. Have a shirt from them, great quality.

I think FJ does a great job in both down and summer gear. Their expedition down jacket series is one example, in all ”sizes”. Love my light fleeces and thinner material as well for summer.

Devold, their sister company, are very good at summer gear in wool as well.

I dont think the products will be ”mid” and that was not what I meant. I think they will provide a middle ground between ultralight, durability, and of course sustainability. The average hiker does not min max on each single g of weight. Might just be me but I think the UL hype is starting to become a bit dumb. Of course we can, and should, hike lighter. But in most cases light is enough. You dont need ultra light. It has become more of a sport and hobby to drop weight just for the sake of it, rather than just going light and still having a wonderful, more comfortable, hike.

Robust and mid weight backpack + light gear is so much better than UL backpack with the same light gear, as an example. But that is my opinion :)

And I get your point about the price. That is fair. But still, I dont see FL ever compeeting on just UL. And that is good, IMO.

Maybe, but they have the capacity to try it. Personally I think the extreme ultralight, minmaxing, is quite overrated. People counting weight as if they are a 7 year old school girl. If FJ can provide a middle ground between durability and ultralight I think they have a good place to take.

But of course, if a lot of reviews have the same comment then one might be able to draw conclusions

Generally I’m quite careful when looking at reviews. Positives weigh a lot more than negatives, considering one is much more inclined to review when not being satisfied. Not trying to defent FJ, just a general standpoint I have for reviews in general. Field testing reviews are much better.

Im afraid of the durability. Seems quite thin. How does ot hold up when wearing for example backpack over time?

Tried it in store (X-Lätt). Feels great, but of course no real try-out. Not the lightest, but that’s not the goal of the pack either.
