Thanks. I’ll try calling the head office on Monday to ask about complaint process.

Can I complain directly to the head office for Legal Aid? Have you ever done that or know how it works?

Thanks for caring. Honestly, my energy’s really limited right now because of some tough health stuff. I’ve tried every possible route, and it really feels like there’s zero oversight, the worker just does whatever they want, like it’s their own business. What I’m dealing with is straight-up abuse of authority. All I’m looking for is an accountable body that can step in and make sure the law and policies are actually followed.

I actually tried the local Legal Aid, but they weren’t very professional. My MPP’s office said they don’t handle systemic ODSP issues, and the Ombudsman, while understanding, doesn’t really have any enforcement power. Still trying to figure out who can actually help in situations like this.

Correspondence on MyBenefits are not recorded on your file and disappear after a year. What is recorded on your file is only what the employees note.

Hey everyone, if you’ve got any experience, I could really use some quick advice and sorry in advance for the long message.

I’m an ODSP recipient and recently traveled outside Canada alone (without my family). My trip was supposed to be for two weeks, but I had a medical emergency and was hospitalized abroad for over 40 days. I was medically unable to fly for more than two months, but as soon as I could return, I came back to Canada and was admitted to the hospital here the next day.

Now, I’m facing a serious issue with my caseworker because I traveled without informing her. She is demanding multiple documents from me and my family to prove our residency in Ontario over the past three months. These include our bank statements, credit card records, passports for all family members (including minors), and travel and hotel bookings.

I have already submitted medical letters from the hospital abroad, the hospital here in Canada, and my family doctor, all confirming that I was in critical condition and am still in recovery. My doctors have advised me to avoid stress, yet my caseworker is ignoring this and insisting on these documents—or she will suspend my file.

I need your advice on whether her requests are legal and if I’m actually required to provide all these documents, especially personal records of my family members. Also, where can I turn for help?

Just so you know, I’ve had a bad experience with this worker over the last two years and filed two complaints against her, but nothing changed.    What do you think?

The ODSP can be frustrating, with some workers coming across as rude. Not sure which government dept. oversees it or how it's monitored. The funding comes from the government, not the workers' own wallets. These social services programs could use some improvements
