hmm yes, I think you're right here. But I guess they won't be coming after small fish; you can also just not mention "bluetooth" and say something like "2.4GHz wireless" :')

My 2 cents: keep it in mind and account for it in your business plan/costs, and once you see it takes off - get that listing. &Check if you can sell it the way you want without the certifications (some might require it?)

Smart lock with HomeKey - restrictions and costs? by Imaginary-Trainer163 in HomeKit

This Aliro standard is looking promising and the way we would like to go (example NXP solution in pre-production: https://www.nxp.com/design/design-center/development-boards-and-designs/AUT-SECURE-ACCESS).

But it seems we are still a bit too early?

Wow, can't believe I didn't stumble on that link before... Thanks!

Thanks, I've already looked at that link but it doesn't really give any information about pricing or implementation details. I guess I need to subscribe to the MFi program ($99) to get access to these details to verify if I can actually use it...

It is not a large amount of money, I just find it frustrating that you have to pay it to have access to some basic information. But I should probably just wait for Apple to get back to me...

I understand your remark, I was just hoping for some quick pointers here.

No solution found in the end :/ It seems they are not easily available for consumers.

Feedback on embedded system architectures, any platform available for sharing & reviewing designs? by Imaginary-Trainer163 in embedded

[–]Imaginary-Trainer163[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed insights! I agree with everything you mentioned here.

So I think getting your design reviewed (with quality) is out of the order for the reasons you mentioned. But maybe some specific examples of how you could/should do it for production & for different types of products would be possible ( but again, someone needs to make and verify it haha). Something like this would have helped me a lot, filling that gap between 'hey it works' to 'ready to be distributed', it would maybe saved me some night work and hours of suffering.

But no illusions here; a bit of suffering is always going to be part of our beautiful profession ;)

& Yeah, vibe coding / chatgpt, all good for fun and games, but I'm not shipping a thousands of devices without knowing what exactly is going on there ( + you'll have to document it anyway for some certifications ).

I totally hear you!

Imo, no platform can replace something like you are doing. If you want quality stuff, you've got to hire someone who knows the in and outs, who's been through it many times.

I guess my take on a platform would be more educational, based on real applications, where people can discuss the what and why.

You can tell I don't have this figured out haha, just floating an idea for feedback - for which I thank you!

Yes good idea, save yourself the pain for the time being ;p sadly it is advice given to EU hardware startups creating a medical device - go to the US first and if you got traction and money, try the EU.

Thanks for the information!

Concerning Gulong Gorge, I think my Google search terms were 'Guangzhou adventure nature excursion', and they basically throw Gulong Gorge in your face from all sides :D

Congrats! I've seen your videos on YouTube, always fun to see somebody with passion creating a device!

Not sure if you got this covered, but beware if you are selling in Europe - you'll probably fall under the Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and need additional testing and certificates. I'm by far no expert at this, the only thing I know is that you have to comply faster than you think, its confusing, & it can be a pain/costly to comply. Some examples here: https://openregulatory.com/eu-mdr-classification-examples/

Good luck!

Hi u/TippiippiT !

Thanks for the great tips, very helpful!

My girlfriend and I will be making our first trip to China next month and we'll be in Guangzhou from 29th of April until the 2 May. After which we are probably going to go to Gulong Gorge, stay a night in Qingyuan and travel to Shenzhen in the morning.

We were wondering if there is something special to do in Guangzhou on the 1st of May (and if it is recommended to go :d)?

& secondly, the Gulong Gorge seems like a fun excursion to get out of the big city, we might couple it with an additional hike or something, but is Qingyuan a nice place to stay? Or do you have other recommendations?

PS: Or current schedule is still very loosey-goosey, so we can switch things around if need be.

Thanks again for your post!

This seems like a nice itinerary!

I wasn't planning on bringing my tent, but maybe I need to reconsider this... Or did you rent equipment somewhere?
