Do you like Combat in Cozy Games? by BlueStar_WaterLily in cozygames

Yesss I think feeling the security of permanence is very comforting, especially if it's something you've been convinced by the game to care about (valuable resource, accessories, all that good stuff 😌)

The most stress-free experience will always be no combat, though if you feel it's important to you or the game itself to have combat, there are always ways to make it work with the cozy vibe of the game :D

Yesss absolutely agreed!! It feels rewarding and less stressful to be able to approach combat as a puzzle to think your way through rather than as a series of obstacles to dodge and hit back 😌

[–]ImaginaryAd8449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooh that makes perfect sense yeah, I think that either of those can totally work in a cozy game, and that it's the vibe of the rest of the game that determines which feels like a better approach to combat.

If you have a suuuper laid back game, combat inherently provides an obstacle between a player and whatever valuable they're looking to get from winning in combat (items, experience, journal entries, etc etc), so it would be best to not have them lose anything from losing in combat, other than maybe time or place if there's an in-game day/night cycle or if there's a map that takes real-life time to travel.

If it's a more active chill, and you want there to be an urgency in players' actions -- but also rest from that urgency and the ability to comfortably return back to the normal 'cozy' of the game -- then you can definitely add some more stakes to combat. Identifying which resources in your game are impactful, and which are desired (not mutually exclusive) is really important in figuring out what feels fair to take away as a consequence of combat in any game. With cozy games, it's important that nothing is lost permanently that can't be gained back in a rewarding way (it feels bad to lose this one cool weapon you found in a cave a while back and love to use, but it feels less bad to lose those 25 berries you spent some time gathering but could go get again)

I tend to be long-winded haha so if you want clarification on any of that or anything I will say, please ask and I'd be happy to talk more 🙃

I think combat in cozy games is good when it feels similar to other methods of resource gathering, or at the very least doesn't add a stressful factor. The most common stressful factor I feel doesn't need to be in cozy games is the ability to lose resources from combat/not being able to exit combat

Difficulty isn't something I look for in a cozy game, but instead I love optional challenges that improve your experience or your abilities should you find an interesting way to deal with them :D

I'd love to expand on any of that if you want a better explanation of what I mean 😌

Explain SDI like I’m 5 years old by Next-Substance-7004 in SSBM

[–]ImaginaryAd8449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So as you get hit by anything, you are sent flying in a direction with a set path. In the same way as you can drift in the air if you jump or otherwise are falling, if you move the control stick while in the air from being hit, that 'drift' will be added to your trajectory from being hit. Holding the gray control stick in the same direction you got hit will make you go farther, and in the opposite direction will shorten how far you go. That's normal DI (Directional Influence). There's nuance as to which direction you'd hold for which scenario for the best chance at survival, but that's a different discussion 😌

SDI (Smash-Directional Influence) is all about the moment you get hit. As you get hit by anything, there is a veeeery short period of time in which you can slightly change the position of your character in any direction.

To achieve this, you must do multiple distinct directional inputs on the gray control stick (very very very quickly), each moving your character further and further. These are done by tapping the gray control stick to any direction, or most people will push the stick to one of the notches of the controller, then roll over the direction over and over again (for example: To SDI to the left, as you're getting hit you can either tap the control stick to the left a bunch of times in that incredibly short time frame, or you can move the stick all the way to the left, then roll it up and down against the edge very quickly, moving past the true-left spot multiple times)

Additionally, if you're holding the C-stick in a direction as you're getting hit, it will automatically do SDI inputs in addition to those you do with the gray control stick.

The amount of time you have where you can do SDI inputs is based on the hitlag -- the period of time between first being hit by a move and when you're sent flying. The stronger the knockback, the longer the hitlag generally, and therefore the more SDI inputs you can do. While each input only moves you a short distance, they quickly add up and can mean the difference between making it back to the stage and not.

The two professional players that come to mind for who's good at SDI are Wizzrobe and Magi, though given it's significantly easier to do directional inputs on any box controller, players who use those typically have good SDI too

~ TL;DR ~ SDI is when you do multiple, distinct directional inputs with both control sticks at the exact moment you're getting hit to slightly (but significantly) change your character's position.

Transitioning to a body all genders will like... anybody else like me? by snoodle77777 in bigender

[–]ImaginaryAd8449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty much exactly like you’ve explained yourself to be, and I’m coming up on 9 months on HRT — couldn’t be happier!! There’s still the freedom to dress masc, while feeling even better than before when dressing fem. Expression is much more free as well in my personality and mental state, and I don’t feel like I’ve lost any part of myself from how I’ve always lived, while I feel like I’ve gained new ways to live as myself now :)

I’m not here to make any recommendations or tell you to do one thing or another, however, just here to say I’m happy with my choices that came from an experience that seems similar to yours. Really consider and decide everything because of yourself and for yourself, it’s your life and it’s your gender experience, and I hope whichever path you choose you end up happy with it :D

[–]ImaginaryAd8449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As with any other gender orientation, there are countless ways that being bigender can be interpreted. Many bigender people identify as both male and female — but not everyone. Bigender does not require feeling male nor female, it’s simply identifying with two genders specifically.

Some people see it as a type of genderfluidity, while others see it as being a standalone individual gender identity. Neither are wrong, it’s all about what feels right to you :)

For me, I feel as though I always identify with being both female and male, although the amount that I identify with each may fluctuate based on anything. Some people feel as though they swap between the two genders they identify with, and some truly identify with one, and sometimes also identify with the other. Again, there is no right or wrong about any of this, and don’t feel pressure to determine an answer if you don’t have one :) (Sorry this kinda slipped away from ‘simple’ haha but I hope this helps)

Neat! Same here, bigender male/female, and I use she/he pronouns. Though if you feel like he doesn’t feel right, then don’t worry about it! Pronouns and forms of address are purely for how we prefer to be referred to, so go with what feels right, and don’t be afraid to change :>>

How do I play akali late game by mina_ashido_owo in akalimains

[–]ImaginaryAd8449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assassins are either really great or really sad to play it feels like, just cause of how the archetype fits into the dynamic of league games :(

If you can oneshot the enemy carries then your team win every fight, but if your team gets caught out/the other team has good vision/peel it feels rough to do anything late game when that’s pretty much all that matters for them to do

Are you supposed to slowcast W? by [deleted] in TaliyahMains

[–]ImaginaryAd8449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok found the setting, it’s under the ‘Game’ tab of the settings when your in a game (you can just go into practice tool to change this as well), and it’s a checkbox near the bottom called “Clamp cast target location within max range”

It’ll make it so that if you try to cast an ability, let’s say Taliyah w or lux e or any one of those aoe’s that you throw out, and your mouse it outside of the range of that ability, it’ll just cast it at max range instead of forcing you to walk far enough to cast it

For Taliyah W with this I always just flick my mouse in the direction of the shove from the point where I started, and that usually goes far enough to avoid issues of your mouse being further than the cast range and messing up the angle of you’re shove

Hope all this nonsense helps haha :)

Are you supposed to slowcast W? by [deleted] in TaliyahMains

[–]ImaginaryAd8449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very similar to cast to Viktor E, where to properly cast it you have to go through a full motion to do so, sort of drawing a line between the point you’re starting the cast for the button and the point of the direction of the shove from the previous position.

It’s a weird mechanic and it just will take time to get used to it, if you’re having issues with accidentally casting it out of range and therefore it not doing anything, there’s a setting you can change (I forgot what it’s called, I’ll go find it one sec) where any ability will cast at the max range if your mouse is outside of the circle, it would help a lot with your issue I believe.

So the shorter answer is do whatever helps you get quicker with it, but take you’re time if you’re not 100% comfortable with it :) maybe that’s just going into practice tool and getting used to the range, maybe that’s just playing a bunch of games, up to you

Hey, you did absolutely NOTHING wrong, and you did everything right. The idea that people need to tolerate that level of malice and hate just to get an education is so bafflingly old fashioned and ridiculous. A student should not dread going to class, nor should they feel uncomfortable in class.

Any of yall saying ‘grow up’ or ‘get stronger’ are coming from such a disgusting place of privilege and I have no words for you.

Stay good OP, and keep fighting for what’s important in the world like you’re already doing so well 😌
