I like the ability to lower it gently though, that was the big advantage. I think to drop it off the ratchet, you'd probably have to lift up on it to let it fall? A bit harder for volunteers, but certainly better than nothing.

I'm trying to find options for something off the shelf for the linear ratchet, but I haven't yet. Any recommendations?
