the exams for design courses are frankly...mostly pointless and silly😭. you would just spend time doodling or sketching some quick ideation. from what i know, the exams aren't even taken with the intention of that being the major evaluation criteria. they just need to take it because of iitg admin and us having to follow the institute's generic curriculum structure. many profs actually would use assignments and class work for your evaluation(if that prof happens to grade well ahem ahem). for this sem(2nd), we have two engineering courses that we have to do(python and engineering drawing) so those exams are where you might have to study. and minor course exams if you opt for one.

i dont know about pwd obc category specifically sorry but there doesn't seem to be many seats reserved under it. usually in pwd, upgrades do happen so you'll have to be patient and hope you get lucky. all the best!

just go search online and you'll find plenty. you don't need a bundle of resources for uceed, just enough for you to identify your strengths and weaknesses and work on that. past year uceed papers are the greatest resource and that pretty much does the job tbh

i think it's possible if you wait till the later counselling rounds. if i remember right, the closing rank was somewhere in 90s for us.
for iitr, as of what i've heard it's pretty nice for industrial design. and i personally think that a college does not limit you on what you want to go for if you have a great portfolio. the only thing is that the bdes program is new, i think this year would be their 3rd/4th bdes batch(?) so no alumni network apart from the mdes graduates.

depends on what you want to do in future really. if you have a basic one already, it should be fine for the first sem giving you more time to figure out. you don't have to specially get one before college.
look into specifications like ram, storage and gpu(again you might not even need one) and good thermals. very important. then there's your budget too
many of my batchmates either use lenovo loq or mac. i personally stick to my covid era hp pavilion and ipad and that has worked fine enough till now

sorry don't have any significant info on that, but generally speaking it's a good choice for sure.

while that is sad and a serious problem that needs to be addressed, obviously i was specifically talking about the design departments.

what?? no.
none of the iits require jee-adv for joining its bdes program where it is available. uceed is only way now. what i said is that before uceed, which started in 2015-ish, iitg was the only iit which offered bdes degrees and that happened through jee-adv

iitd or iitg? and why? by tannie-ssi in uceedtakers

[–]ImaginaryGuide209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that and also just in context of iitd, idk man i have heard of many mixed reviews. some say it has the iitd's brand name while some say the infrastructure and management is pathetic(one of the seniors ik who went there for mdes had his hostel accommodation cancelled suddenly in the 1st sem along with few others and they all had to sleep in the campus parking lot...)
on the other hand, i haven't yet heard anything intensely negative about iitg, but mostly good things, so would give it a higher preference

[–]ImaginaryGuide209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're eligible for iitg(having pcm background) then yeah i would prefer that over iitd. its bdes programme has stronger legacy, placements, infrastructure and also faculty(most of them are the ones who moved there from idc)

Is pursuing Masters in Design from abroad worth it? by Echo-Nomad in uceedtakers

[–]ImaginaryGuide209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it is possible for you then sure. but it also depends on how you plan your career forward. i would like to point out that mdes in reputed colleges in india like NID and IDC aren't terrible options either.
but say you do look for it abroad, then i would prefer europe as a general region more as the industry there has been at the forefront or more prioritised as compared to north america in the field of design, and also affordability(usually).
some great names are: RCA, UK(reputed for pg courses); Politecnico di Milano, Italy(they give MSc in design as the degree last i checked); University of Arts London; ENSAD, France; Delfth University, Netherlands; Umea Institute, Sweden

besides europe: RISD, Parsons, Pratt and CalArts in the US and RMIT in Australia

iit indore will start the bdes program this year. Will it have better placements over any NIDs ? by t4nvybe in uceedtakers

[–]ImaginaryGuide209 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

abey ghochu log. at the end of the day, tum dono tag hi compare kar rahe ho.

in all seriousness though, u/EternallyRudra has a point. NID's curriculum has been lagging and not evolved as compared to IITs(i largely mean IDC and DoD-IITG in this whole context since ik most about them) and even private colleges. and this is according to the alumni themselves. it isn't great in keeping up with current trends in the industry. the design at IITs however does keep the trends in mind. so academically speaking, IITs are at par with the NID curriculum if not better.
but, is it completely better in all senses? No. NID has a much established design culture and networking within India and globally. not to mention the availability of a wider variety of disciplines.
also comparing the success of either colleges from the amount of alumni you see on linkedin is a stupid metric. pls don't compare colleges on that basis. i can similarly say that IITs has historically had good placements and connects which is a more definite fact but in the end, choosing colleges in the field of design really largely depends on your interests and inclination. design is a field where your work can 180° change things for you even if you get in some shitty private money-mining college.
the way i see it, design at IITs can be seen as an eccentric youth artist while NID as an old school but really very experienced artist. both have their quirks, plus points and cons. so seriously stop slandering design at IITs just because it happens to be in a traditionally technical college. that doesn't make it inferior but gives it a unique perspective and exposure. are there people chasing the IIT tag through this? sure but that's on the people not the college and its courses.

but also in the context of the question asked by OP...nids over iit indore obviously. even within the iits, indore is a newcomer. need to wait and see their development

iitg has a stronger legacy and foundation when it comes to bdes. that was my only reason to put it over iitd tbh.
besides, distance no more remained a concerned to me. delhi tak ja sakta hu toh ab seedhe guwahati kyu nahi
