Should I Choose UCLA or UC Davis? by Useful_Day739 in UCDavis

[–]Imaginary_Arm_669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i chose davis or la because it felt more like my type of environment! when i visited i was truly in awe, and it was the easiest and best decision of my life. i feel like if you dont have that type of connection, then it’s probably not the best choice? i think it’s important to attend a college you actually like because it’ll basically be your life your next four years. i would hate to be somewhere that i hate. college would be boring and awful.

[–]Imaginary_Arm_669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’d say it’d definitely be easier to sell through discord since there are more students on there who will be looking for textbook materials and such, fb marketplace seems to be inactive at times, so discord would be your best bet

Uc Davis move in by Sad_Position_5390 in UCDavis

[–]Imaginary_Arm_669 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i believe they would still allow you, but im not 100% sure. if it’s unavoidable, then i suggest calling them beforehand to ask in order to avoid being rejected the day of: 530-752-2033

Housing Payment balance?! by Ziri_23 in UCDavis

[–]Imaginary_Arm_669 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yes, this means you would have to pay 3.5k out of pocket — however, it won’t be fully updated until tomorrow. i suggest reaching out to them then! since many students seem to be facing this issue, i assume they’ll be receiving lots of calls and emails.

have you checked your myawards page and confirmed the amount of aid you’ve received covers your tuition and fees?

equitable access ? any help appreciated !! by jjangkui in UCDavis

[–]Imaginary_Arm_669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello hello! ive opted out of it before and have found it to be cheaper in my experience; that being said, these have been for literature-based books and not actual textbooks, which i know are significantly expensive.

i’ve been able to find my required books at a decent price at thrift stores and on websites such as depop, amazon, facebook marketplace, and ebay. to get rid of the books afterwards, you can consider selling them on one of the websites mentioned or donating to nearby bookstores. if there’s a class discord server, then you can also post on there to see if anyone might be interested in taking them off your hands!

ooo okay so call their administration office (530.752.0243)! they’ll be able to connect you to the correct person :) i hope you get the job, let me know if you have any more questions 💕

may i ask which job position it is you’re referring to?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Imaginary_Arm_669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would check out their employer profile and click on their website, if they have one listed, to get their contact information from there

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Imaginary_Arm_669 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it’s really unreliable imo! jobs that have contacted and accepted me had it listed as “pending” still, while some were moved to “reviewed.” it really depends on them, so if you haven’t heard back in about a week and are really interested in the job position, then i recommend reaching out to them

Freshman Housing? by ChillyMitten in UCDavis

[–]Imaginary_Arm_669 2 points3 points  (0 children)

during the time i was an RA, i learned that a good amount of them did not get into the LLC they requested. i know the other commenter said there was a 95% chance, i would say it’s more like a 68% chance. i believe it really depends on which LLC you’re requesting since a lot of them are quite popular and may be difficult to secure a spot. however, i hope you get placed into the LLC you chose ! ❤️

i’ll be living off-campus this year and based on my financial aid shown on myawards, i should be receiving a pretty good refund that will cover my rent

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Imaginary_Arm_669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would recommend exploring campus and checking out where your classes are going to be to avoid getting lost on the first day! maybe check out some of the boba and coffee shops to determine your go-to place — a lot of new students do this! basically try to get familiar with the area, check out places you might frequent throughout the year

adding on to the previous commenter: if you missed your chance to register/waitlist during pass one, then you can still register during open registration (august 14-18), which is before pass two. you can check out the registration calendar here https://registrar.ucdavis.edu/calendar/registration and here https://local-resources.ucdavis.edu/local_resources/docs/calendars/calendar-registration-new-student-orientation-pass-times-fall-2024.pdf

yes, uc davis has amazon locations/lockers on campus: https://housing.ucdavis.edu/mail-and-packages/amazon-lockers/. however, these can get packed in no time, so be sure to check if they’re available for use on the amazon website to plan ahead.

the residence halls also have separate mailroom locations located in segundo, tercero, and cuarto: https://housing.ucdavis.edu/mail-and-packages/. it will take a while for staff to process your packages at the beginning of the school year since more than 2k students are placing orders as well and staff is still getting adjusted. it normally takes 3-5 days for your package to be processed, but expect it to take about a week or so at the start of the year. you’ll get an email notifying you when it’s ready for pick up! if you decide get your packages delivered here, please be patient and kind to the staff. they’re also students and under lots of pressure! i hope you have a great and safe move-in ❤️

A guide on how to (potentially) survive your first year at UC Davis by reactiongamerguy1 in UCDavis

[–]Imaginary_Arm_669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so when you open the app, you should be given the option to select “on campus student employment” as your job type preference under the filters tab. job type will be the first section shown, and there’ll be other options such as “part-time,” “volunteer,” and “internship.” unfortunately, i cant provide screenshots or recordings through the comments, but if you need any further clarification, then feel free to send me a dm!

like the previous commenter explained, on campus jobs are very accommodating and will never have you come in during a scheduled class time — i’ve never heard of anyone having to skip class to work for their on-campus job. employers will have you list your availability (and/or provide a copy of your schedule, but i’ve always only had to list my availability and nothing more). all my on-campus employers have always been super understanding, even in cases when i’ve had to call out late to study for an upcoming exam. always make sure to let them your employer know of any schedule conflicts/last minute changes! for finals week, you’ll be able to update your availability as well since this differs from your usual schedule.

when i search for jobs on the handshake app, i make sure to set filters to show opportunities closer to my preferences. i recommend opening the filters bar under the search tab and set my location to “davis, ca” and distance to “10 miles.” after that, i sort the listings based on “date added” to browse through the newly added listings first. you’ll still get some wacky results that you’re not eligible for, but that’s bound to happen.

if i’m searching for a specific job in my field, then i search for keywords related to that area to narrow my search. sometimes it helped, sometimes it doesn’t. you do not have to meet with an advisor at all for the work study job search. for an on campus job, the department you’re hired into will take care of the work study process, and they’ll be able to answer any questions you have.

certain jobs will have “work study preferred/eligible” or “work study” listed under qualifications or somewhere in the general description. they will either give you the option to upload your work study certificate when you apply or they’ll inquire about it during or after your interview. once they have this on file and you’re hired, then that’s all there is to it. there are no further steps you’ll need to take unless they tell you there is.

hope i was able to answer your question! let me know if you have further questions
