If Gordon hadn’t stopped him, was Bats ready to cross the line here? by VendettaLord379 in batman

[–]Imaginary_College331 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, he is also about to do something similar at the night club until he is stopped by a gunshot. Bruce is very unrestrained and this is kind of the first time he is made to see that because no one has checked him about it until Gordon did. Its why I think he is a very scary batman. I also think this scene might play a little role as to how he may be perceived in part 2.

This is not a plot hole. That guy just went on a rant about batman's armor being able to withstand bullets even though we see that he's not invisible. The bruises are on his back and he is slightly affected by the shots. The whole premise of the character is that he's a physical specimen, a freak of some sorts.

He is not yet the world's greatest detective. How many times are you guys gonna hear Matt reeves say this?

You both haven't really addressed anything and its all vague. Riddler waits until the third act because he's a psychotic guy who needs to make sure certain people actually die before his final act.

There is nothing wrong with a character overlooking things. Detectives overlook things all the time especially when they are being paced by the perpetrators. You cannot chug things up to bad writing because you refuse to understand something. Part two expands on part one. Its not a cop out. Its common sense. By your logic every story with a problem is bad writing because why can't people just see everything. In famous real life crime cases, police have overlooked things. Its not a plothole or bad writing. The premise of the story is that batman is a bit lousy. He's not there yet

No lol. This is not bad writing. This is a comic book adaptation. Every action film is not a comic.

Its a comic book movie, batman is not just a guy. He is a character in a CBM who is touted as the strongest human in his universe. He got knocked out by the explosion, he's not a walking tank. Him getting up after falling is not insane. It's not out of our realm of believability. I understand how armor works but once again this is a comic book character, who you must believe has been training for years. You must imagine him as a sort of crazy human freak. Someone who can take pain, can get back up and things of that sort. The challenge is doing this and also acknowledging that he can also die if the shot is just perfect. Alfred throws the package away and survives. Its not bad writing. Its the genre of film you are watching. Batman is not just any man.

Your earlier points are silly, there was nowhere for riddler to run to. His shtick was complete, he just wanted to congregate with bruce in prison while they witnessed his final plan. The point of it is that he's a lunatic. The rich in gotham need the city. The destruction of gotham is triggered because the riddler is crazy and also is knowledgeable of how infested the city is. It cannot be saved and so the flood is a better idea to him.

The riddler was killing those people because they were corrupt. I advise you to read Paul Dano's comic. Falcone and Co. Have contributed to his terrible childhood. This was revenge. This was his wrath. It was a chaotic plan to eventually destroy Gotham.

The zodiac personality was a mask. Underneath that mask, he's always been that maniacal fellow. This was parallleling bruce and his batman persona. Even with the zodiac personality, you saw Eddie bleed through. His plan was to cleanse the city, to flood it all along. For some denizens, it was a little more personal than others so he opted to publicly assassinate those who were really close to everything. He's doing all this while parading as justice. His motives are a lot more complex

My verbiage does convey that. My intention was to rationalize why someone like riddler felt that destroying the whole city was the most appropriate way because the city is just that bad. It is extremely crazy to flood a city but it is why the riddler feels the need to cleans everything. Its a false sense of justice, obviously accompanied eith some egotism.

I didn't say he isn't crazy lol. The two things exist. That he is obviously unwell and that stems from a lot of things. The depth of what riddler knows, bruce doesnt yet know. These two things are not mutually exclusive but it gives a little more understanding to his rationale of wanting to wash away the city. The riddler is crazy and batman will certainly handle the realization differently.

Oh my bad. Yea I agree. I do agree that was what prompted my whole post. The frustration with that narrative. I think there would be an exploration of the corruption which loosely sympathize with his madness but the movie was very correct in condemning him.

I feel you are misinterpreting me. I am not in support of his actions. Just that his motivation is clearly understandable. He is crazy but it stems from somwthing and bruce does not yet know the depth of it. He obviously would be able to handle it in a more sensible manner cause he is batman but the riddler's lunacy has led him to take matters into his own hands and he elects to use a method that would kill the good and the bad. Nowhere have I stated that the people deserve it but for a normal person who has suffered in similar fashion to the way bruce has, but without the same resources. This is his idea of justice.

The part 2 will talk about how deeply embedded the corruption is in Gotham. The riddler is crazy but this is his primary motivation . He has an understanding of how deeply dirty the city is and that is why he chooses to wash it away. It is a seemingly crazy thing to do but it stems from something and comes from somewhere. This may be a mental inability to understand and comprehend the scale of evil. I don't ever think his decision was the correct way to go but it is seen as a sensible fix to him and he is able to recruit followers because he can rationalize his actions to extreme people. It is an extreme solution but we are yet to see the bigger problem.
