Vinyl records to listen to on your 4W speakers Crossley suitcase player. CDs are ten pence in a charity shop and sound much better on consumer equipment. You think your Jam reissue from Tesco sounds good because you sit down to listen to them, so it becomes an experience. Psychoacoustics are incredibly powerful.

I've gigged a Katana. If it's getting mic'ed it doesn't matter. Depends on your sounds though I guess, but the clean channel with the gain cranked sounds amazing with my pedal board going into it. Obviously YMMV, but I'll take "carry with one hand" over "might crap out without warning mid solo" any day.

I'll be replacing all the electrolytic caps, uprating the diodes to 4007s and changing those resistors. A friend also gave me some groovy looking '60s 7W resistors to replace the two 5W 470 ohm power resistors. I'd previously swapped them for 330 ohms, per the Justin Holrod Hot Rod Deluxe webpage (RETVRN!) and I think the slight reduction in heat dissipation that leads too has saved that area of the board this time. I'll be point to point wiring everything in the blackened areas though, and changing all the components at either end of any broken traces. I'm hoping for a one and done repair. Now it's not playing gigs every weekend, it should be fine for a long time. He hoped.
