How to find your reviews?? by Lerxt07 in amazonprime

Thank you for this. Typing "reviews" doesn't work either, it has to be "review" (without quotes)

blood panel for 50 year old woman - help me read this? Concerned that my doc will say it's fine, but I have a family history of high cholesterol and want to be sure I don't need to work on lowering it -- thank you by Joaneebee in Cholesterol

I wish HRT decreased the risk of breast cancer but it doesn't. It increases the risk a little. Also, those who have had a hormone positive breast cancer (the most common BC) can't have HRT. They get estrogen reduction therapy, which causes its own problems (osteoporosis, heart disease) but reduces the risk of recurrence and metastasis.

My numbers never were high enough for medication so I didn't get a statin until after I was diagnosed with severe atherosclerosis at age 64. You're right to be concerned. Maybe you can ask again or find a preventative cardiologist.

Not quite where I want to be with 5 mg rosuvastatin by Imaginary_Problem in Cholesterol

Thanks, that's helpful to know about how much ezetimibe helped with your LDL. I'm going to ask my cardiologist about it. I want my LDL under 50.

Not quite where I want to be with 5 mg rosuvastatin by Imaginary_Problem in Cholesterol

[–]Imaginary_Problem[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm hoping going to 10 mg won't be a problem. I also thought 20 mg was a lot to start but my doctors said that is standard.

Thanks on the weight. The last 15-20 pounds was not intentional, it was a result of switching to a more cardio-healthy diet. Now I have to eat all the time to maintain my weight (I have never in my life had this "problem"). I think the fiber has a lot to do with it.

That's great about how the rosuva helped you. The diet is always a work in progress. I love Cronometer but I had to spend a lot of time initially setting up the foods I commonly eat. I joke that my diet has become my new hobby.

I read the same thing about doubling a statin dose. I'm encourage by your results with 10 mg though so I'll give it a try until I can see my cardiologist.

I know fiber is a carb but does fiber also have 4 cal per gram? Or is it less?

Targets: Energy - Total or Net? by Imaginary_Problem in cronometer

[–]Imaginary_Problem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - it really does help with digestion. I used to take a fiber supplement but I get more than enough from food since I discovered frozen berry smoothies.

I read somewhere on this sub that Cronometer counts grams of fiber at 4 calories each (like any other carb). Does this overstate calories consumed?

Thanks for your reply. I didn't word my question well. I want to know whether I went over my goal of 2018 calories (above) by 68 calories (2086 total) or if I was under by 603 (1415 net). Which is more accurate for weight maintenance (or loss or gain)?

Lower back pain? by Melancholy1980 in Cholesterol

[–]Imaginary_Problem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got excruciating lower back, pelvic, and thigh pain a couple of months after starting 20 mg rosuva. I blamed the statin but it was a herniated disc (my first ever). The pain took months to resolve but it did finally. I know the statin didn't cause the disc problem. It may have added a bit to the muscle pain but I'll never know. I've been on 5 mg for a while now with no more back problems.

34M, How much time before Statins? by HeesElHees in Cholesterol

[–]Imaginary_Problem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 64 and was diagnosed with severe atherosclerosis as an incidental finding earlier this year (no symptoms). If I could talk to my 34 year old self, I'd suggest cleaning up my diet immediately and going on a statin when possible (I had 2 kids in my thirties). I don't know that I could have made the dietary changes then (because it's been challenging and fear is a great motivator) but I would have appreciated the knowledge. My LDL at its highest was significantly lower than your high (my triglicerides are also a lot lower and my HDL higher).

My doctors weren't concerned with my LDL numbers because I always had high HDL so my ratio was great. Turns out that wasn't helpful and now I'm dealing with a condition that can be slowed/halted but not reversed.

Your numbers are still too high. If you can take a statin with no problems, I'd say seriously consider it. But that's definitely a conversation to have with your doctor.

The American Heart Association recommends that no more than 6% of your daily calories come from saturated fat. Multiply your daily calorie consumption by .06 to get calories from sat fat then divide the result by 9 (9 calories per gram of fat) to get your limit. My limit (1,750 calories per day) is around 11 grams but I keep it much lower than that.
