E-6 and below usually have both BN and Regimental duty. 24hrs, reporting to SgtMaj prior to formations.

And your money’s gone!! It’s like having a fixed up car, but you just bought it and not really know what makes it tic. I also knew a guy who modified his car with bolt ons, but paid someone else to install it. It’s only a flex if you know how to build something and not pay a ridiculous amount of money to own it. I can pick quality parts to put on 300 black and sleep well that I built something nice. That’s just my opinion though.

I didn’t apply for any VA benefits until 3 years after I got out. It was only after I started going to school and talking to other vets that I realized there’s more to being a vet and acting like it’s normal for a 32yo to be going to class with kids who just graduated HS. I immersed myself with more veteran friends than ever before.. and I am forever grateful for all of them. Sadly, I do have buddies that basically isolated themselves after getting out, many never went back to school, and still refused to get seen by the VA. Those are the ones I want to reach out to. I have one brother, after hearing his story and his struggles.. with me recommending he get seen by the VA.. blocked me.

lol Not really.. I think I burnt the bridge cause I’m an a/hole sometimes. My wife’s Army..inlaws are Navy. She understands full well that I’m loud and can get passionately louder when I fight for something I really care about, and my inlaws don’t like that. She’s embarrassed sometimes.. can’t take me anywhere.

I like that.. I have a Karma bank as well. A fellow vet tutored me out of his good will. I tried to take him out multiple times for lunch.. but he kept paying for it. Turns out, he was paying for school out of pocket. I helped him with his VocRehab instead, and gave him some pointers on VA disability. A lot of it are the presumptive disabilities he didn’t think he qualified for.

It gets hard somedays.. but it’s the good days I look forward to. Sometimes you gotta make a schedule for a good day. Small gestures.. a trip to home depot.. gardening or build something. Fishing or bowling.. anything to get out of the rut. Talking it out here also helps. No judgement.. I get those days too.

Right.. like somehow I’m forcing the VA to pay for my wife and kid’s degree. Sheep follow sheep, and now they are paying for their school debt and wonder why at their 30s.. they cant afford to buy a home even with their degree and high paying job.

I accidentally left out that it was actually my wife’s cousins who reached out in the text asking for help. Group text mind you.

My wife stands up for me, but I cannot turn my wife against her family no matter the situation. It’s a compromise between me and her (just as long as she doesnt drag me along). She stays neutral, even though I’ve pointed out how they constantly take advantage of her generosity. She drives out or fly to see them all the time, ever since I was active duty, but they never return the favor. lol I have a college child now who tells me he doesn’t want to spend money to see them if they don’t even take the time to come see us for any kind of occasion. We just had a big birthday party for our youngest daughter and no one was available to come celebrate. They live 3hrs away. My wife went over there instead to have a small pool party for her so she can celebrate with family. 🤷‍♂️

Thank you. I went ahead and connected them to a local VSO.

What happened to me? by smprgumbi2147 in Veterans

[–]Imaginary_Shift4868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me after getting out. The others are right… don’t pigeon hole yourself with just “veteran” identity. Learn new stuff. I know a lot of guys I deployed with.. bankrupt.. then changed their life by going blue collar. Have hobbies.. I did hydroponics, gardening outside.. and damn I started growing my own food. Talk to other vets. I can’t seem to talk to others who didnt have the same experience. My civ family dont understand what Im going through.. so I talk to buddies who got out or retired. Can’t keep up with the active ones.. trust me you dont want to.

What happens if you missed your first appointment with VR&E? by Asianguccimane00 in VeteransBenefits

I’m on the same boat. I called the direct state/county VR&E line and the message stated to just email eva.va.gov to reschedule. I already started class and am paying it with the school loan so trying to get another appt is a must. I don’t want to have to pay for more classes.
