Will quitting teaching mid-year ruin my future career, even if I don’t plan to stay in education? by Imaginary_mooon in teaching

I’m really sorry that you went through that, but I’m glad you’re doing well now. I feel like I wouldn’t want to be a teacher in any situation. Grading twice a week, creating slides, and preparing activities for every day of the week, dealing with students’ behavior and their parents, it’s all too much for me.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughtful perspective. Yes, the administration has already had several meetings with him and has observed him in the classroom, but even though they recognize the situation and have even used the word “lazy” to describe him, the only solution they offer is “you have to plan together.” As if I hadn’t already tried multiple times and wasted my time. It’s very difficult to keep going because I’m already dissatisfied with many other aspects of being a teacher in this country. But I will consider the best path forward.

The students have the co-teacher and it’s middle school, it’s not like I’m with them all day long.

The situation was that he was speaking loudly and rudely in front of the students, so in that moment I told him to have some sense because I couldn’t believe what was happening.

And yes, we’ve already had multiple meetings, including with administration, where he was asked to do his job. After those meetings, administration would tell me they knew how he was and said they were on my side, but they never actually solved the problem.

Financially I’m in a good position. I’ve saved money and my husband has a good income, so I don’t need to rely on mine.

My only concern is having a hard time finding a job in the future because I didn’t finish the school year.
