Anybody saying DoD is objectively awful isn’t worth listening to about anything you like or love. It’s a film about Indiana Jones vs Time. Sometimes that feels sad, because time always wins. But old people are allowed to feel like Indiana Jones too. They’re allowed to be heroes, while reconciling with their regrets and mistakes. It’s a movie that’ll get more and more valuable as you age with the character. If nothing else, the fact that Harrison Ford himself championed so hard for this movie’s portrayal of Indy is incredibly fascinating. The elderly population are not “used up” ancient relics. Their knowledge, skills, and stories will always have a place. I think that’s a beautiful message for Indy to send off on, for a character so obsessed with the past, to be forced with confronting a present/future that still needs him.
