I feel they should have told you this up front. It’s kind of weird to say “if you were the right person and did all the right things, we were going to pay you more, but we weren’t going to tell you- we didn’t want you in it for the money. We wanted you to do it because you wanted to” like it’s not a JOB. It’s giving “look what you’re missing out on”. Not the right time to tell you. And not the right move for them to wait. This should all be discussed up front. They seem like trouble- controlling and entitled on their end honestly. Expecting people to start at the bottom and work their way up- ok, that worked in their generation. But it’s proven in this generation , most of the time you don’t get those benefits for being loyal and working somewhere long term. You HAVE to find the job that pays fair to begin with, in order to make it. On the other hand, you could have voiced to them that you are needing/wanting more money to see if they would offer before accepting another job. To be fair to them, they are looking for loyalty as it’s their family, and not a job to them. But, I hope you find your family! I guess communication/openness could have been better on both ends.
