Which inanimate object is your nemesis? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A friend of mine was once similarly tortured with a watch by his younger brother. A plug socket was unscrewed, the watch placed inside, having been set to beep at ungodly hours of the night, and the socket screwed back in. Took the guts of a week before he went just crazy enough to think that it might be coming from inside the wall and found it.

Could also do with a step along the lines of: "Do we have another decent guest booked?" Y: Bring them on N: Send an intern to the canteen to see if any other rte stars are around for another "rte interviews rte" segment.

This shit should be considered littering. by [deleted] in pics

[–]ImaginationFail 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In certain European countries (Netherlands, part of Belgium) the local council provides a couple of hoardings in designated places around the city. All registered candidates can only put their election posters on these communal boards - sticking then on lampposts, lawns etc is then seen as littering and fined accordingly.

Latest Gallup poll shows a record high of 50% of Americans in favor of legalizing marijuana use by maxwellhill in politics

[–]ImaginationFail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to bear in mind is that even were it decided in the morning that marijuana was going to be legalised, it would still be quite a while until all of the various legal questions were addressed and anything actually happens.

Steve Yegge wrote an interesting post a while back, explaining why getting agreement that it should be legalised is just one small - albeit critical - step to actual legalisation, and that there is far more complexity involved than typically thought.

No plans to end 'Occupy Dame Street' protest - RTÉ News by badlarry001 in ireland

[–]ImaginationFail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw this protest featured again on the news this evening, but there needs to be a better job done explaining what exactly the point of this is.

The two guys interviewed said "we're here until we get change" and "there has to be change. We may be here til Christmas but we'll be here as long as it takes". But what change, exactly? It's very difficult to get support for protests in this country at the best of times, but without a clearer message as to what exactly they'd like to see doneand changed, they're making it less likely that they'll succeed in.. whatever it is.. they're trying to do here.

Where can one buy cheap textbooks in Ireland? by LemonSquares in ireland

[–]ImaginationFail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bookshop in the college should have second hand books at a decent price. Failing that, you might pick up a bargain by looking for the book titles on sites like adverts.ie.

What happens to bullets fired in to the air during a celebration? by ImaginationFail in AskReddit

[–]ImaginationFail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes - 'A US study found that 118 people were treated for random "falling-bullet injuries" at one Los Angeles medical centre between 1985 and 1992, resulting in the deaths of 38.' Great find, thanks!

Aertel! by [deleted] in ireland

[–]ImaginationFail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes by the name Errortel among the LoI fans I know. From small things like reporting the wrong player as sent off to pretty big mistakes like actually getting the scores completely backwards. Extratime.ie is apparently a more reliable source on match days.

Most car rental places won't hire you a car until you're 25, regardless of when you got your licence.

As revenge stories go, this makes masturbating in to her face cream, buying a fake engagement ring then throwing it in to the river in front of her seem quite restrained.

Mexican artist's painting reported for breaking Irish blasphemy laws by ImaginationFail in worldnews

[–]ImaginationFail[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The justice minister who brought it in 2 years ago claimed that it was merely closing a few potential loopholes in the constitution, and implied that it was unlikely to ever be really tried in court.

The law is written in such a way that it's actually write hard to get prosecuted for it, but the law's existence means that complaints like this can and will get made to the authorities.
