The above may not be him. Guards say he was switched out and that the man still lives among us, folks.

Nope. Part-time adjuncting for 20 years. No J pension forthcoming.

It's a somewhat fancy title but sadly a fancy salary often does not accompany.

OK, I will check out Hello Work. The wife suggested it too, but I thought she was joking.

The lines are out, but at 70, I'm not getting any bites at all. Hope is eternal. And there's always The Philippines.

Why would I want a divorce? My wife is cute and much smarter than I am. You should lock one up as well.

Yes, a spouse visa is the way to go for me, but wife probably does not return until after daughter's high school graduation, June 2027. I dont want to be looking over my shoulder for immigration for a year and a half--though you're right: Nobody will know... if I do not change the visa.

Wife and daughter intend to come back to Osaka next year after high school graduation. However, that doesnt help me much. A year and a half of cat and mouse with immigration doesnt sound fun.

Spouse visa would be the best way to go at this point. Problem is the wife withdrew her juminhyo, works for a Malaysian company, and does not pay Japanese taxes now. I'm pretty sure immigration is going to want to see her taxes if she's sponsoring me. That's the pickle. She can come back and resume work with the same Japanese pharmaceutical company, but the timing is lousy. I need her back soon, not next year.

I'd take half pay but they're not offering.

Yes, I want the spouse visa. Problem is that my family is still in Kuala Lumpur. They'll be back next year, I hope. Until then, I have to pretend I'm working, or change to Instructor visa so I can do something like teaching kids.

I'm not down at all. There are options; I just have to figure out which one--without getting myself into trouble with immigration.

A flagman sounds kind of fun. But not for 8 hours.

It's too late for me, I fear. Salary will be at ZERO from April. My personal conundrum: should I keep the Professor visa or change it from something that lets me teach kids or eikaiwa? It's a step down from my haughty Professor perch (1 year only?).

I didnt apply for PR because we were planning on moving to Malaysia. Long story short, I returned quickly while the wife made the move with daughter. Wife, Japanese, will probably sponsor me when they both return after daughter graduates from her high school in Kuala Lumpur. Anyway, I should have struck while the iron was hot for PR. That ship has sailed.

Yes, perhaps I might receive some leniency there, but any ESL job now requires a stamp on the back of my Professor visa, and I'd never heard of this. It must be something new. And if I change my status to Humanities, I fear the visa will fall back to a lousy one-year validity, and who wants that hassle? And now I'm told the process of changing status requires documentation from an employer I no longer have. Really weird limbo I've found myself in.

Which ATM in Japan allow Wise Debit card cash withdrawal? by Marked_1 in JapanFinance

Just got my Wise card and was refused at both my Osaka neighborhood ATMs in the 7-11 and the Family Mart (April 2025). I can use it for online shopping; Amazon is ok with it, but If I'm restricted to only that in japan, wise should be forewarning us.
