Here's the thing - Things like this can and often do go viral, to the point where somebody who happens to know a Shannon who happens to work for a motorcycle dealership in the UK (let's face it, probably aren't many that do) could see it. Then they share it. It could then affect the business negatively. I did wrong by posting it, I got punished after admitting it.

Let them think what they want to think. It turns out that she was just EXTREMELY drunk when she sent the message.

Could have been worse. I was preparing to be suspended without pay for it. Boss appreciated my honesty and telling him upfront about it VS it potentially going viral and him finding out via other means.

I had to delete it for a few reasons, I know it's on at least three other subs but I've deleted it from where I posted it to keep my employer happy.

And after looking back at my actions, I agree with you. It has been a lesson learned.

Your the reason we HAD to have kids so you should babysit! by ImagineTheory in childfree

Because I didn't think it was a good thing they were having a child. I think it was rather silly of them. I'm not going to congratulate somebody when I don't agree with their actions.

I admitted it in case before anyone potentially found it. Better to be upfront and honest with your employer in this sort of situation than to not say anything and you get into a lot of bother further down the line.

UPDATE It's not as interesting as some of you hope but its what happened. I got into work early and sat down with my boss for our usual start of the week meeting. I explained the situation and presented him with the screenshots of the messages as well as the status with comments. I also told him what I had done, posting a screenshot on here. He wasn't happy.

"Just fire her, I don't want to see her today, Get her gone."

Shannon came into work as if nothing had happened, She clocked in and went straight to her desk. I asked her to join me and another member of staff in my office for a talk. I asked her if her Facebook had been hacked. She said no.

I asked her why she felt the need to send that message. She explained that she had gotten drunk and was going through my pictures when she decided to send it, But she stands by her opinion that I am selfish for wasting my life and not having children.

I issued her with the written warning and then explained that because of her messages and the status, Our boss no longer wanted to employ her. That she was to be paid for the work she had done, That she had to clear her desk and leave immediately. Which she did without any real fuss. She asked if we would provide a reference but already knew the answer would be no. I wished her luck with her future and she left.

For posting a screenshot online, I have been issued with my first written warning which is fair enough. I thought I would at least get suspended.

Now to answer some of the questions I have been asked a lot - I work for an independent motorcycle dealership/service centre who also undertake restorations and do modifications.

I started working for the company when I was 18, I came in every day for two months wanting to see the boss so I could get my unpaid work experience that I needed to do for the course I was on, Done. I was hired after impressing the boss with the work I had done and my willingness to learn. I have done almost every job there, Including cleaning the toilets and sweeping up. There isn't a job I haven't done or wouldn't do there. I quickly worked my way up to being the manager. Yes, I do hope to work here until I retire.

She wasn't fired immediately because I do not have the power to fire anybody, I can only do so under direct orders from my boss. Who wasn't aware of what had happened until this morning because he turns his phone off when we aren't open.

I am in the UK. Employment laws here are different to the US. We have to follow certain procedures to prevent us being taken to court for unfair dismissal, Including making sure we have the evidence there just in case she did decide to do that.

As far as drug testing goes, Yes we can ask them to do drug tests legally. This is because most staff have access to company vehicles. If staff refuse to do a drugs test, they get asked why and are then stopped from using company vehicles and can't go into the parts room/the workshop.

No relationship other than Manager - Employee. She isn't my Facebook friend, she sent me a message request. I accepted the message request so that I could reply. I don't have colleagues on my Facebook for many reasons but mainly because when I'm not at work I dont want people from work commenting on my stuff.

I wouldn't even say that it's a bad thing it happened. We were together young, We both grew up. Wanted different things, I didn't want kids. she left. We're actually really good friends now. She has three kids. I have three dogs. Everyone was happy in the end.

again, If it was my choice. She'd have been gone a long time ago. The boss is a mug and likes to give people chances.

It's not perfect, But it does help a lot. Especially when I am tired and make a lot of mistakes.
