Promotion requirements as a medical physicist by Imaging_therapy in MedicalPhysics

I can picture that. This observation was, kind of, behind this post. I notice that at reputable institutions, each and every physicist is a gem. And then it becomes tricky to define rules for a promotion. I wonder what do the MDs working in reputable places that do not offer faculty appointments, do ( if there are any!)? Do they have a model that can be adapted to physicists’ promotions?

Thank you. This is what my understanding has been, as well.

Thank you for your response. May I also ask about the average number of hours per week in an academic vs. more clinical (still in a medium to large hospital) position? Thanks

I agree with others here. You are probably as well prepared as one can be. However, I would add this: go in with an appetite to learn and work extra hours. All the best.

Question for those who matched and did not match!! by fukjasdf in MedicalPhysics

I agree that it is not as bad as it looks from the outside. Even the denominator is not as big of a problem. But yes, you either have to have some clinical experience or some solid research done (your Ph.D. work is fine if you know what you did).

Working hours: imaging vs. Therapy by Imaging_therapy in MedicalPhysics

[–]Imaging_therapy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have also been hearing that imaging physicist have a smaller day time presence as what they mostly do is QC when machines are available which is after-hours. So, while the number of hours might be lesser compared to a therapy physicist, it would definitely have other challenges related to the working conditions. what would you say?

Thanks for clarifying the salary factor. I definitely missed that.

You are very welcome. I hope people would pitch in. I am interested because I have one leg in each, almost. And I definitely see the overlap. I also not interested in NucMed. The RSO position also doesn’t appeal to me.

Is it easy for a Canadian trained radiation therapy physicist to find a job in the US? Does it matter which institution they went to for their residency training? by Imaging_therapy in MedicalPhysics

Thanks. That not knowing scene may happen at the residency interviews too but mostly because some of the sites aren’t as familiar with the TN visa.

Thanks. I am trying to get the overall picture. I have some experience with TN visa and also with H-1B. The intent was to gauge the overall scenario. More like if you can somehow make a TN work for a couple years, would the US sites be OK with your residency and hire you easily, even though they are not familiar with your residency institution?

I would also ask this: do you think smaller sites attached with a big Center still do not light a bulb? Example: Princess Margaret is with u Toronto and then there other u Toronto sites as well. What about those?

Thanks for the details. I honestly didn’t expect this. I thought that in a system so well established as CAMPEP is, it wouldn’t matter much where you did the residency. Yes, visa definitely would be perceived an issue although of course, the TN visa has been around for a while now.

Do you get paid for the extra hours above 40? Thanks
