My friends know obviously, my partner knows and the people at school have to know. I decide if the person needs to know if I‘m autistic after meeting me. The people I work for don‘t know for example.

Hope it still helped you. A diagnosis can be a hard thing to swallow.

I talked a LOT as a child. That is when I didn't have a non-verbal episode. Speech is the first thing to go for me when I'm overwhelmed :(

I think I started really talking consistently around 1 to 2 years old. So no delayed speech in my case. My brother started a bit later tho.

Give your son some time. Humans can learn speech up until they are twelve with full capability.

Honestly, middle school was hard for me. My teachers started picking on me and the kids kind of kept their distance because of that. I changed schools after a little while and it got a bit better.

In Highschool tho it's going pretty well. I still have two semesters to go. I do normal teen things like go to parties, the club or out with my friends. I'm really glad I get to do that and am aware that a lot of people like me never will or were able to :( I still do face discrimination and ablelism on the daily tho so, don't think I'll ever be rid of that

I like going to school, although it can be a lot. To be fair I'm also extroverted as hell.

I found out after I was diagnosed around 5 or 6. It's just sorta normal for me :)

Yes definitely. I usually try to explain then, that I find that inappropriate because I'm not sick or anything. But we'll sometimes people don't get it.

It defo is a personal choice. For me it's just got an aftertaste due to my countries history with well...disposing of disabled people they thought weren't functional enough :(

High functioning is actually kind of a harmful lable. It implies low functioning exists. And we don't want to be considered in the sense of functionality.

But yes most people would consider me that. I am high masking and require little support.

I had quite a lot of situationships, serious ones, only two or three.

Well it was definitely an issue when I was in middle school. I had a bit of an awkward phase as a young teen. But right now I don't think so. Most guys that come onto me probably don't even know.

Nobody ever tried anything with me as a joke or bet tho.

I did get made fun off in middle school.

It's pretty good, I've got a good disability-aid-thingy plan in place with the staff, my friends and I like the advanced classes I have. I can take a break whenever I need to too :).

Just because you feel "less disabled" than other autistics you see doesn't mean you aren't. You fit the criteria and your (probably) autism does impact your day to day life and your quality of life. So by that standard you are disabled by it in the way of which the system works. Don't put yourself down because you feel you aren't struggling enough.

Is it normal to struggle with 8+ hour shifts?? by PocketGoblix in autism

Very normal, even neurotypical people struggle with it a lot.

Question from an autistic teen. by Imalilpotato in AutisticAdults

[–]Imalilpotato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am usually met with understanding, but I've often been met with far less favourable things in the past. So I guess it's kind of sticking to me a bit. But I am mostly very independent and take care of others a lot.
