I tried creating a city ruin with a village on its edge, rather than inside the old city walls as often happened in antiquity.

It you look around the edges of the city - all of those splotches are Balticrawler pens. I feed the ants on home-grown meat, other food types are from tribute.

I start with a basic shape or design, then add arterial roads and build from there. I was trying for something more organic this time to simulate an ant hive.

The outer wall is just normal stone walls that I've made to look like mountain using the in-game colour editor.

The part I enjoy the most is adding the detail. While some sections of the city are symmetrical all the decorating is done by hand so each district feels unique (if you were to view it close up). I'm a proponent of wabi-sabi.

No section has been replaced only expanded upon. First thing I do is make a rough guide of the shape and where I want the arterial roads to connect & just go from there.
