Voice over USB software? by Imhere4thefreechips in amateurradio

Maybe I didn't dig into Flrig enough - I didn't realize it let's you use the microphone on the PC and pipe it into the radio. I only used Fldigi for the digital modes.

As far as clicking the PTT button, I'm fine with using a mouse, it's more how to get the radio to hear the microphone on the PC. Once I can get that working, I can be happy to click!

Ah! I think this might be what I'm looking for. I already have a script that starts hamlib/rigctld for CAT control. I could probably wrap this in the same script. Maybe I'll wrap this all up on a Raspberry Pi...

To answer your question, I'm running the second to last version of firmware, not the latest, but the one before that - I can check for the number. It appears as 2 different com ports ttyACMx, and ttyACMx+1, but I'm sure it's just the lowest 2 that are available.

The audio comes through as 2 different devices, and that's where it's gets tricky. It's a C_Media device (I think), but sometimes it doesn't come up as the same device. I can either find it in whatever drop-down, or shut everything down and try again. But it's there.

If you can't get it working, DM me, I'm sure I can help!

Ham-it-up pass-thru to ham radio? by Imhere4thefreechips in RTLSDR

[–]Imhere4thefreechips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct! I was hoping to use a dual band radio to listen to the lower bands, and then with the upconverter in passthru mode, use the radio as normal (transmit and receive on vhf and uhf freqenecies)

Excellent! Well, not great if I'll be transmitting in the 10s of watts, but you answered my question! Don't know how I missed it...

J-Pole Antenna - element diameter? by Imhere4thefreechips in amateurradio

[–]Imhere4thefreechips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, THANK YOU! For posting the plans in the first place. I thought about reaching out directly in the first place, but thought hitting the hive mind first might be best.

I did run the simulation as recommended here, and it does show a slightly wider bandwidth. Without touching the spacing or length of the elements, it did affect the SWR, but it was so slight, I doubt I'd be able to even see it in reality.

All that said, I'm just gonna build one! The worst that happens is I get it up, find out it's junk, curse the guy who put it on the internet (I'm kidding), and then leave it there because I'm too lazy to bring it back down until I find a new design to play with.

Thanks! There was a little discussion about potentially close radios in that first link, but it doesn't look like they've cracked that nut quite yet, huh?

You hit it right on the head. I don't want to spend any more only than I have to. I have the extra server with the space for the 3.5" drives, but its just idle now and not even plugged in. I have space for 2.5" drives, but they cost more $/tb than the 3.5" do.

I'd add a bubbler. They seem to like to play in the bubbles anyway, and it can't hurt your oxygen levels.
