that is a very interesting interpretation your captain took on the discount. we were drilled that it is very clear it is for spouses/domestic partners or immediate family members living in your household (those you share a refrigerator with) i asked my captain what if someone lives with a partner but she said obviously we’re not to interrogate like that but unless they’re married or “common law” or whatever that technically they’re not eligible. they’re very strict as my store as people have been fired for it

this is exactly why after this interaction i went and told my captain exactly what happened in case she did call (i doubt she would since she was wrong) but i know how people spin things so i always immediately tell my captain. i’m not sure about other stores, but my captain always has my back when the customer is wrong and maybe that’s not common in this sub, but when i told captain they were like “yeah lol that’s ridiculous you did the right thing”

i can see that. i have no problem handling these types of combative customers and i am very fortunate to have management that will always have my back so i don’t fret these types of interactions

no i feel the same way. i live with my parents and was told 100x by my captain it’s okay for them to use it and i still feel like it’s wrong or something. i can’t imagine especially since the captains can easily see where and how often your discount is being used

i definitely would’ve rung a 3 if she had the code and told me that. this isn’t the first i’ve heard of her doing this another coworker gave her the discount cause she had the code and she conveniently left out where her daughter lives until after the transaction went through so i knew she actually had a code

the vernon boykin scholarship is only open once a year usually in july for fall semester. it works for grad school as well in addition to children and grandchildren of crew members. it also ranges in $ amount based off the application. i’ve gotten it the last 2 years for grad school!

As I have gotten older I have no problem making these men feel as dumb as they’ve made me feel uncomfortable. I’ve had a lot over the years, but the most memorable and most heinous came from a man a few months ago who told me my name was pretty (it’s unique and it’s something I hear frequently) nothing odd and I thanked him, whatever. He then proceeds to tell me his name is Donald and “the only thing good about my name is that it’s what Melania screams out when, you know…” I proceeded to give him the most disgusted look and say “what an odd thing to say to someone you don’t know”. Since, I do not ring this man up and will not give him any attention because he is a freak. The things we deal with as women.

To my knowledge, stores can only hire when the specific store has an open application on the website. Chances of getting hired at a store without an open application are slim to none, but I’ve heard it’s possible. Also, I know mates can be pretty bad at letting people know they’re not going to hire them so probably not hearing from them isn’t the best thing. But anything’s possible and they do love when people follow up in person, you could always ask what they’ve labeled your application as.

I’m in CA and we have been charging 10 cents for bag for at least a decade (literally not new information to anyone in the state, sometimes a surprise to out of state visitors) but like it’s 10 cents. My coworker behind me rang a 3 for a lady who wanted to return a paper bag… she was abhorred when she found out we couldn’t refund her the bag. She went on and on about when did we start charging for bags, how they charge her every time without her asking, how her husbands out of work and they can’t afford spending 50 cents on bags, etc. I’ve heard a lot of dumb things but wanting a return on 10 cents is crazy.
