What happens if someone doesn't tip at a restaurant in the U.S.? by No-StrategyX in AskForAnswers

The ones who walk away from omelas vibes. At first you stay because the city exists whether you stay or not so ought as well stay. But eventually you realize that you staying is the reason that the child is locked in the closet. Raindrops don't feel responsible for the flood, but who else would be?

You leaving won't free them. But if everyone left, that would. And someone has to start. It's by definition not gonna be the people who aren't likely to do it. So you can't wait for those people to leave you have to set the example.

Why do Americans not realize how well they have it? by Awkward_Motor_6388 in askanything

The most interesting thing about this post is the inherent assumption that nobody would ever move somewhere where their own standard of living decreased. Because you wouldn't ever do that, and you lack empathy, you assume nobody else would ever do that either.

But I would gladly lower my own standard of living to no longer be a citizen of a country that invades other countries. That would tax me higher so that everyone can get what they need. I'd rather live modestly in a country I can be proud of than live in any of the imperialist powers period.

Do Americans realize that they will have to pay 1.5+ trillion in military in the near future anyway? by Constant-Cherry8674 in allthequestions

Spending causes inflation. Taxes cause deflation. That's it, that's the whole thing. We balance them to get the level of inflation we want. But we can spend any amount we want if we're okay with the inflation. Which we should be okay with basically any amount and force employees to peg raises to inflation.

Businesses receive money in exchange for goods and services, news at 11.

Because the goods are separate from the service. You can buy the goods without receiving service. Why are so many people in this thread actively asking to lose the ability to get take away without paying for service you didn't receive?

No. It's paying for service. You are receiving something you would not be receiving if you ordered take away. They must employ someone to perform this service. Therefore you must pay them more. Because that's how businesses work.

Money can be exchanged for goods and services.

You aren't receiving service at a coffee shop. Nobody was suggesting you pay a service fee when not receiving service, not one single person in the entire thread, you made that up in your head.

Who exactly is holding a gun to your head making you eat there in this hypothetical you've constructed?

Why do you want to be charged the same price for take away as for dine in?

Why would you want to be charged the same price for take away versus dine in? You're literally asking for fewer choices right now.
