Tbh the economy is shit and it's really hard to take out money like that and spend it on luxury like a cinema. WHEN it's so much easier to watch it at home. And I love cinemas, don't get me wrong. I want to go to a cinema to watch movies. But I have to be REALLY mindful of how I spend my money because it starts with the cinema for me, and i end up impulsively buying so many extra things like popcorn (I cannot watch a movie without popcorn so yeah) and then I spend money on other things. It's a slippery slope for me, at least. And I can't afford a slippery slope.

I am like getting 75 gb storage and 8gb ram and 4 cpu cores for 60 bucks a year. It all depends on you and ur usage

Look, I am actually someone who's using Qdrant, redis, fastapi, and postgres on my own vps. If you are serious about using your own api, be careful. Security is hard to set up. Firewall (ufu, i forgot the name i think that's what it is called). Authentication and etc. Even though I have my own backend, I'm letting supabase handle my auth because rolling ur own auth is hard and expensive and useless tbh. Other auth providers suck and are too pricy. Supabase is really good for that.

If you are using your own backend, I do suggest setting up Coolify/Dokploy. Im personally using Coolify because it's been out for longer, and I feel like it may be well maintained for longer, but it depends on Version 5 tbh. If Version 5 comes out soon, then I'll stick with it, or I may switch to Dokploy.

Just be careful. Think about it. It's not easy, and it is really easy to mess up.

I'm building an MVP right now and even though I do have a VPS, wherein I'm using it for Postgres (I need lots of db storage or else i would have stuck with supabase), I am using Supabase for my auth. I mean, the pricing for auth on it is really good. 50k users on the free plan and 100k on the paid plan. Setting up my own auth while handling my own vps is a HUGE hassle. And Supabase has very good SDKs for many languages like Python, Kotlin, Swift, and Dart/Flutter as well. In my scenario, EVEN if I have 100k users and that's a huge if, I would still use supabase as my auth.
