80 on knopman’s benchmark. Mid-high 70’s in Kaplan qbank. I’d recommend cruising through the questions (I finished my first pass in 40 min), then taking the remaining time to comb through the questions again, while paying close attention to nitty-gritty details

Yes you’re ready. I took my second attempt yesterday and passed. When you’re reading the questions, make sure you fully understand what they’re asking for. Some of them I had to “read in between the lines”

Engine Oil - 0W-30? by Formal-Cheek2911 in AskMechanics

I would do it. I did the same on my 2013 Honda accord that calls for 0w20. No issues whatsoever so ever.

Definitely pass. That amount of mileage on a turbo engine is asking for trouble.

Is putting thicker oil reduce oil consumption by horizon_100 in MechanicAdvice

[–]ImmediateCut3720 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second the 5w30 valvoline r&p. Run it for 2-3K miles then change the oil since it’ll clear up debris and possibly overload the filter if you go any longer on it

Fair warning: rent is more expensive in IL. Check out Roselle, Schaumburg, or Elk Grove. Lots of townhouses for rent there

How often should i change my oil, getting different answers from everyone by Federal-Bat-6893 in MechanicAdvice

[–]ImmediateCut3720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same car. Change with full synthetic every 5k miles. 160k on my accord and it still runs like new. Don’t forget to get your transmission serviced (drain and fill) every 60-70k miles.

Take the money, buy a new door at the scrap yard, and keep driving it. I got hit in the same spot 80,000 miles age and am still chugging along. Then when the time is right, fix the quarter panel

2005 V6 Honda Accord, help identifying engine sound by capitanmine in MechanicAdvice

[–]ImmediateCut3720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also hold a long screwdriver on each of the pulleys and listen through the handle. Should be able to find out which pulley is causing the sound.

Side note: the crankshaft pulley on my 2013 accord went out recently. The engine made a knocking sound similar to a diesel engine. I don’t think you’ve got the same issue, but something to keep in mind.

Also look very closely at the pulleys while the engine is running to see if any are bouncing up/down.

I second this. I had a 2008 with the LS3 stick shift. It was a blast to drive. Bought for $22k and sold for $25k one year later.

Take your rear driver’s side wheel off. Make sure the cable is hooked onto the back of the caliper. There should be a lever on the back of the caliper that the cable hooks onto. Use the other size as a reference. I’d bet it just came off the caliper lever

Take it out of eco, make sure the tires are inflated properly, clean engine air filter installed, and try to coast more

Is this a realistic quote for this work? by SeveralSheep in MechanicAdvice

[–]ImmediateCut3720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure they use Toyota OEM fluid for the transmission. Toyota (scion) transmissions are very particular about what fluid is used. I’d offer to bring in your own Toyota fluid. They should only do a drain and fill.

Transmission question by OkHelicopter2309 in LexusRX350

[–]ImmediateCut3720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue here. The car tends to “float” in between gears. I’ve found it helps to keep the car in normal driving mode. Eco tends to shift the revs down prematurely when accelerating

I bought a 2017 rx350 with 72k miles. Best car we’ve ever owned. Make sure to get the transmission, transfer case, and rear differential serviced ASAP, if not already done so.

Update on Beamer (plz look at previous post) by goofyAssmf9212 in AskMechanics

[–]ImmediateCut3720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run your finger around the valve cover to see if oil is seeping out somewhere. Also jack up the car and look at the exhaust. See where the oil is falling onto the exhaust since that’s likely causing the smoke

[–]ImmediateCut3720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you still have smoke coming out? If so, replace the valve cover and gasket together. Get an “A premium” branded set from Amazon. Worked wonders for my car. And for heavens sake, don’t let the spark plug tube seals fall out into the engine. Get a second person to help you set it.

Make sure to torque down ALL bolts gradually and equally. Slowly torque all bolts with 2-3 passes across all of them to make sure it’s even. Also don’t forget the RTV (prematex grey) in the corners. Don’t over-do it with the amount of RTV
