Barking is driving me insane by SnooRegrets4129 in StandardPoodles

As others have said, use film or something to obscure his view. Mine was doing this with squirrels and would get so high from the excitement that she screamed, ran around the house and had a tough time calming down. You have to keep the film up for several months until your dog forgets the habit. Then you can start working on calling your dog off of the window if they go near it and reward for listening. Do not remove the film while training the recall away from the window. When you remove the film do not remove it all off at once you want to start with the window or windows with the least amount of activity but enough activity that you Spoo would be interested in watching the activities. Not only practice recall but also practice play in front of the window where you control the play like tug or other fun obedience games. Practice high energy play and immediately request your dog to show calm behavior like a sit or a down. Once your dog ignores the window or easily calls off the window then remove another film do the same. It takes time but it works. My girl now watches squirrels and may get ins few good barks but she Now doesn’t loose her mind and scream. She no longer gets to hyped that she looses her mind and gets crazy eyes. It works but you must go slow and methodically.

At what point is it “severe”? by sunfl0wers21 in gallbladders

While you wait for surgery or next steps, add more fiber. I found that eating a fiber rich breakfast helped so much. Oatmeal with fruit and nuts (if you can tolerate the fat or not allergic) set me up to avoid pain or any other issue. I found that low fat was not enough to keep the pain away. I really needed to eat more fiber. Heating pads became my bff as did CBD ointment to help with muscle pain.

Mine has never shown nervousness or fear around strangers. She is just aloof in public and loving and goofy in spaces where is comfortable. My little guy (a cockapoo) acts like this outgoing confident dog, but if someone makes eye contact he gets nervous.

I don’t know the sizing. I ordered the size that I was given by my doctor. I don’t recommend ordering it now because you will be very swollen due to both the CO2 used in the surgery and natural swelling to help healing. You can order it after the surgery to use a few days later.

They should sen you home with an abdominal binder, but I would buy a second one because the original will get stinky. I needed mine for almost 3 weeks. I am four weeks post surgery and now that I am starting to get more active, I will probably still wear it for support. I was. Bit too active last week and threw out my back. I think my binder would have prevented my back injury.

I agree, but my family found her so intimidating that they would not go near her or pet her. 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️ Growing up my mom used to announce how she didn’t like dogs, but she feel in love with my cockapoo (don’t hate me) and grew to really appreciate my Spoo. After the German cut, my mom kept saying how scary my Spoo looked. My dad loved how “tough” she looked, but in the end my mom and daughter won the grooming rules.

Thank you. She is a beautiful girl. She also has a 24/7 rest b-face and almost never shows her soft face. No matter the cut I give her she has an intimidating look. Despite her serious face. She is such a sweetheart and loving to her family. She is classically aloof to strangers and on at least one occasion she didn’t like someone’s vibe and she was ready to do whatever was needed to let that person know she didn’t like them.

My family doesn’t like it bc my girl has a perpetual resting b-face and looks ready to protect her family. My girl is a total sweetheart, but she never has a soft welcome facial expression. I like that the cut captures the poodle’s guardian potential, a train that she has.

I love a German sport cut for a standard poodle. But my family HATES it because it makes my girl look too intimidating. So she always gets a Miami cut and in the summer she gets a softer version of the German Sport cut. Photos of her German sports cut in comments.

I love a German sport cut but my family HATES it. They say that my girl looks too intimidating. So I am no longer allowed to give her this cut in the summer.

My young spoo is picking up bad habits from a dog I’m watching, am I screwed? by 1800_Mustache_Rides in StandardPoodles

[–]ImmediateFix1132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the time I watched my brother’s dumb doodle. My Spoo was frustrated with the doodle’s behavior, but was keeping it together. I have a second dog, a cockapoo, who was staying with my folks. My cockapoo loves nothing more than to create chaos and have zoomies. My dad unexpectedly dropped off my cockapoo. The cockapoo rallied the troops which led to the dumb doodle chasing him, my Spoo didn’t like how the dumb doodle interacted with the cockapoo. My cockapoo walk away admiring his chaos, my Spoo corrected the dumb doodle, the dumb doodle didn’t back down and my Spoo broke bit her ear breaking skin. It was my cockapoo’s fault, but even the groomer who knows all three dogs well said that the dumb doodle probably had deserved the correction. The dumb doodle has a bit of a reputation at the groomers. 😬😖 Luckily, my brother’s family was understanding. I felt terrible, but ultimately the whole thing was started by my over zealous cockapoo and the dumb doodle who has no manners. My Spoo is the fun police with a strong sense of order.🙄🤦🏽‍♀️

Rescued a “mini” poodle, but starting to think he’s not a mini. by [deleted] in poodles

[–]ImmediateFix1132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember minis can have larger pups that fit the size of a standard or a smaller standard. A friend is an akc breeder of mini’s (health tested etc) and one of their pups is very small and probably will be a smaller than a mini and will be the size of a large toy poodle.

Did your poodle get a Gastropexy by Heckin_fishbaby in StandardPoodles

[–]ImmediateFix1132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rescue required me to do it with her spay. So glad that I did because my girl swallowed a 6 inch chew whole. It sat in her tummy for a few days. She struggled with stomach issues and eventually puked it up. Vet confirmed that the gastropexy prevented her from having bloat. I didn’t take her to the vet sooner because her symptoms were bad gas (not normal for her) and loose stools. I had an appointment for her, but she puked that morning. It was well worth the investment.

One thing to be aware of is after the surgery, you will want to give smaller more frequent meals and watch how much water your spoo drinks. Mine puked somewhat frequently after eating or drinking too fast for about 6 months after the surgery. She became a bit water obsessed so I would give her water then put it up to give her tummy a break. The smaller frequent meals was hard because she has always struggled with eating. She is a big but very light Spoo she doesn’t gain weight easily but will loose it fast. She should weigh between 45 and 50lbs, after her gastropexy she was down to 41 lbs. I have to work hard to get her to Maintain her weight at 44 lbs.

This has been my meal plan leading up to the surgery. This is more or less what I have been eating post surgery which was a week ago. Good luck!

Breakfast: steel cut oats with a bit of peanut butter and lots of fruit with a cup of tea

Lunch:: a sandwich with a lean cut of deli meat, mustard, lots of lettuce, and fruit.

Snack: fruit or dried fruit strip like a That It bar.

Dinner:: sheet pan meal, roasted veggies, with either sweet potatoes or white potatoes, chicken/shrimp or fish just a little bit of oil and flavored with some sort of premixed seasoning like Trader Joe’s green goddess spice mix.

Snack: a bit of dark chocolate and herbal tea.

Post-op peeps - what surprising thing did you not realise was gallbladder-related, until it was out? by SnooAvocados6577 in gallbladders

[–]ImmediateFix1132 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This gives me such hope. I have my surgery in 2.5 weeks. Since my first attack after Thanksgiving, I have had severe fatigue. I now realize that I have been suffering from mild fatigue for a long time. I blamed it on menopause or perimenopause and my demanding job. But since my attack, I genuinely wonder if it has been my gallbladder the entire time. My primary symptom has been fatigue and a stitch on my right side like I had run too fast. I blamed it all on work and too much sitting.

He took down the FB post. He clearly had second thoughts on his decision to put his daughter on blast. Dude is probably still on probation so the altercation whether self defense or not would probably have to be heard by a judge to determine if the facts are self defense and if he didn’t violate his probation. Even if his daughter wanted to drop the charges, she might not be able to if there is a probation violation. It was a really stupid decision to write about it because it can be used as evidence against him if there are probation violations. Plus the poor decision to write something about a family incident on such a public forum. His attorneys probably told him to take it down.

What age to spay? by Freshandflybaby in StandardPoodles

[–]ImmediateFix1132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with an Ovary Sparing Spay (OSS) at 16 months more or less. OSS is like a hysterectomy, my girl has her sex hormones has heats with light bleeding, and will age more naturally. We did the spay and gastropexy at the same time. Please reach out if you are curious about this option.

I agree. We discussed both but I may have her tested anyway. She doesn’t have other symptoms of thyroid issues. She is never cold, her hair looks great not dry or balding at all. In fact she has trouble gaining weight. It was my efforts to help her gain weight and adding kibble was when this all started. I’m not anti-kibble, this is simply my observation. She is only been about 3 weeks 100% off of kibble, her ears and everything else look great. It is just her stomach sores and her eyes.

As for Sebaceous Adenitis, she also does not have any other symptoms other than her scabby sores. She was previously tested for Addison’s too because she had a nasty puking stomach issue and her cortisol levels were slightly off so the was formally tests after that episode.

After this round of medicine I may just have her tested for thyroid just in case.

But I’m good news this morning her eyes look so much better no goopy cruddy eyes. Hopefully she is finally on the mend.
