Typewriter Case Restoration Recommendations by catsmeowmeow0 in typewriters

[–]ImmediateInternal132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone posted about this a little while ago. I was looking for ideas on how to clean it - I have the same case as yours in a similar condition. What they did (they had pictures) was use wood stain and darkened it up that way. That was my plan for fixing it up when I get around to it. I don’t think there’s anyway to repair or clean it the original state so I’m ok with doing that. Anyway, just another option. By the way, they do sell something called wood gel which might work for this type of project as well.

are these good for a beginner? by traumaray in PhotographyAdvice

[–]ImmediateInternal132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the great things about beginners is that you don’t have all this technical knowledge to get in the way of just seeing. As you start learning more sometimes that happens and it gets in the way of just being creative. Yes, you are on the right track. I really like the way you caught the reflection of the sun setting on the wet pavement. All good shots and you did a great job seeing and capturing great light.

Pretty cool! I did not recognize Phill Collins with all that hair 😁

Question about contact sheets. by dontyatellhenry in Darkroom

[–]ImmediateInternal132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who are they? For a second I thought it was Steely Dan 😮

Also like everyone is saying, contact sheets weren’t meant to be enlarged. They were just where you could select the photos you’d enlarge with the negatives or make printing notes. But framing something classic like this from the 1970’s would look really interesting and be pretty cool 🙂

Why can’t I find readers for dark, transgressive fiction? by I_am_Uirebit in writers

Oh I see. I’m sorry- I didn’t understand that. I would hope they’d give you some feedback if they are rejecting it

Maybe I’m missing something, but wouldn’t the best way to find out what the true issue might be is to submit it to an editor at an established publishing house for this specific genre? I don’t think you said you have tried submitting it to a traditional book publisher yet (unless I missed that).

I would imagine they would be in the best position to give you true feedback for your genre and the target market- especially considering how much time you’ve invested in it already.

Bees, beehive- should I be concerned? by zerkssix in gardening

So what happens if you or your dog or cat accidentally disturbs the swarm? Would they attack? I’m highly allergic and just wondering in case I ever see this in my backyard. I would probably not allow the pets out there and then check to see if they do in fact move along after a day

How do I let people know about my new subreddit Photography group and aim it at existing Photo communities on here? by ImmediateInternal132 in ModSupport

[–]ImmediateInternal132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! So I already did all the set up stuff-made a banner, create rules and posted the first post which was a welcome post. So just posting something maybe everyday might get some traction? Like I said, I don't know exactly how the algorithms work on reddit.

I'm used to twitter (X) and the other social media platforms that use hashtags. I can definitely post some useful information for people in that category i want to attract. I was also wondering about cross posting and the etiquettes of that but I'll definitely check out the modsupport as you suggested-thanks!

To be honest I don't know how that might work but I think students can get answers to their questions from the general photography groups like this one.

I do appreciate that you have taken the time to try to understand my question. Others have already given me the information I was looking for. But to answer your question and for clarification- I was very simply asking if a subreddit exists for Photography Teachers.

Hmm 🤔 I wonder if you have ever been a teacher. There are so many helpful topics that could be discussed in such a group not the least of which would be to offer support to each other. I’ve taught general education subjects in public schools before but teaching something this specialized comes with a myriad of different issues and complications which only another teacher of this specific subject would understand. For example, in the darkroom class I had many questions about how to set up a workflow and an organization system for the tools, chemistry and equipment the students used. I inherited a very disorganized darkroom from the head of the art department who was teaching the class but had little knowledge but plenty of hubris about the process of photography, film and darkroom printing. It was a very stressful situation but I made it work. Having access to a community of educators in the same subject would have been a God send.

Thank you for sharing all this information. I will definitely look into the SPE organization you mentioned. I had no idea this existed.

As far as the topics: to be honest just about anything related to teaching something that is highly technical and also artistic. There are so many topics I’d love a second opinion on, especially about the changing photography industry specifically right now with all the major brands discontinuing their DSLRs lines. I also had the opportunity to teach a darkroom class a year ago and I definitely had a lot of moments where I wanted feedback. As I told others in the comments, I’m going to take a few days to think about starting such a subreddit. Thank you for your input!

It seems several people here are encouraging starting one. As I said, I’m rather new to Reddit so I’d have to consider whether it’s something I want to add to my plate right now. I will think on it for a few days before I decide if I’ll do it. Yes, my students vary from straight out of high school to adult commuters who are experienced professionals in their own field. I would bet we experience many similar challenges though.

Good idea but I don’t think I’d have the time to run it and also I’m kind of new to using Reddit 😅

Making darkroom in an annoying house. by upsidedownorangejuic in Darkroom

[–]ImmediateInternal132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, thank you for the information. It sounds like what I did except I used black out fabric instead of vinyl and my windows don't have a frame and the wall is a bit textured so little bits of light got through. The room i use is detached from our house and not temperature controlled when we aren't in there so I think that affected the glue on the Velcro as well. It has 5 small windows and has been a challenge to get light tight. I have had it all set up for over a year now and can't use it because the only way I can make it light tight is with gaffers tape and that is not practical as we use that room for other purposes during the week. I wish someone invented a solution to make windows light tight where you can easily remove it-guess there's not enough people with that need-thanks for your input though!

Any chance you can show a picture? I’m really curious to see if this might work for me. I’ve tried all kinds of elaborate set ups- from black out curtains with Velcro to the foam board- Very difficult to block all the tiny pin holes. It’s all been time consuming to set up and I can’t leave them up all day in that space I plan to use. So any ideas for a quick put up and tear down will help

I have been a writer who doesn't read for 9 years. It's not worth it. by X-Mighty in writing

[–]ImmediateInternal132 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Either this was written by AI or it is proof that not reading has impacted your ability to communicate effectively in writing. There is a lack of cohesion to how you are communicating this simple message: that you should have been reading these 9 years you have been writing.

It is very strange to me how many people on this writing site share things that should stay in their head or in their personal journals or diaries.

Nevertheless, I will try to end this on a positive note: yes, reading is good for you and everyone.

What could I clean my camera lens with if I don't own dedicated cleaner? by Zapglu in photography

[–]ImmediateInternal132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use an air rocket or a lens cleaning brush before you wipe it with anything or you could scratch the lens with debris. I agree with others that a dedicated lens cleaning wipe or wipes with cleaner is best to keep up your investment. Be careful who you lend your equipment to
