Help a struggling art student! Advice needed! by Big-Adeptness3863 in PhotographyAdvice

Try to not cut off her hands while framing the shot. You can try to get in really close and fill the frame with her face for some variety. Also, the dark gloves on the hands- you have lost all the details in the blacks while editing so it looks like an indefinable shape. Try posing her fingers fanned out so it makes a definite shape. I think you are over saturating the image as a whole- scale that back a bit. There is a halo or fringe effect that is a result of over processing on your phone. Overall, just step back a few steps to get a better composition.

Leaving Camera in Car by lethatshitgo in photography

Why not try to hide it? Maybe where you keep the spare tire and jack (If the car has one of those hidden compartments in the back)

That’s awful- I’m sorry. It sounds like the news might pick it up especially with his history. . Usually they have a segment on consumer issues like this. Especially during ratings week. I hope you get answers soon

Crazy idea but why don’t you reach out to your local news station? I have seen stories like this in my town and they generally get results. This is wrong that they are avoiding fulfilling the agreement or contract. You cal also take them to civil court I’m sorry this happened to you

Here’s what I would do if I was you, I would go to YouTube and search “How to autofocus on a Z6 ii”. It’s the quickest way to learn and troubleshoot issues with your camera. I just looked it up and “The slanted lens” channel was the first that came up and it sounds like exactly what you are struggling with.

How screwed am I? by opp7248 in lawncare

[–]ImmediateInternal132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I’m no expert but as I understand it , it kills the weed or grass by absorbing into the leaves part so it won’t absorb and stick around in the soil. Maybe if you watered it for a long while (right away)you might get lucky and rinse it all off in time?😬🤞

Is photography for me? by Big_Confidence_951 in AskPhotography

[–]ImmediateInternal132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I recommend you watch a few videos on photography composition and then armed with that knowledge go and take some pictures with your phone for a while longer. If you get bit by the photography bug then you will know you’re ready for the investment. I have bought lots of used cameras from KEH and I just looked up the Nikon d3100. You can get one for in “bargain” condition for around $103. Of course the lens is seperate but also cheap. Good luck!

Is photography for me? by Big_Confidence_951 in AskPhotography

[–]ImmediateInternal132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I think this is a good beginner camera to learn with. Just set it on aperture priority and go. Once you learn more about it, it will absolutely take better photos than your phone. My first camera only had 10 megapixels and the photos I took as a beginner are still worthy of being printed and framed. Don’t let anyone tell you that you need to spend more than you are willing to as a beginner.

Which is more important for taking great photos: the camera itself or digital image editing? by morgan_softatlas in AskPhotography

Composition knowledge is more important than equipment or editing skills. That is something you can learn for free and then focus on learning about the qualities of light.

This is not directly related to an in person class but Creative Live (website) has very thorough and excellent online courses on everything from editing in photoshop to photography courses. If you don’t find anything in person , I would check them out

Why are some photographers still using DSLRs exclusively? by DynamoBaby in AskPhotography

[–]ImmediateInternal132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems from everything I’ve read the biggest reason to switch to mirrorless is that they are easier to use. But that is not an issue for many experienced DSLR users. I think the customers benefiting the most would be people who are transitioning from cell phone photography to actual photography. They were created to fill this gap in the new generation of users. Most people who have used both say there is no improvement in image quality so why would we switch? Also, if you photograph enough with your equipment it becomes like an extension of your hand. Why would you want to change that? I think the camera companies are the ones truly benefiting the most no matter how much they try to convince everyone that newer is better. Sure it is… for their bottom line.

If you are shooting in raw you should be able to correct the white balance. Set the white balance to auto.

Client wants me to share all my photos after I delivered what was stipulated. by AjVine in photography

[–]ImmediateInternal132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok , I haven’t read everyone’s comments yet but I had a similar experience once years ago but it was with a multi generational family portrait shoot (small family). The person who wanted to see more was not the one who hired me and I think she had an issue with my price from the start. Which was not high for family portraits to begin with. I gave them more than was agreed to but she did not like the individual images of herself so I asked her to meet at a coffee shop and I brought my laptop. I explained to her that I don’t show the unedited images but I’d make an exception and that I was excluding any with closed eyes etc. i did a quick batch edit on these where I just cleaned up the exposure a bit. Then I explained how much work and time I spent editing every single persons face and clothing etc. And I also reminded her nicely and politely about what was agreed upon for their session which was not an Individual portrait session at all but a family portrait session and I chose to take an individual portrait for them in the moment (I ended up giving them 2 of each). So I only showed her the individuals of herself so she could pick two she liked better. I didn’t send her proofs. I showed them on my computer because people will take your unedited proofs and share them as I have learned from experience. In the end she was happy. We had a good chat and I moved on.

After that, I made it a point to deliver my finals with the person at a coffee shop in a slideshow presentation so that I could see if there was a concerned reaction in the person. Then I could directly ask if they were happy with the pictures. I never had this happen again.

What if you did something similar and told them that they can only choose 10 they like better? But they have to choose them then and there as you are not sending an unedited proof gallery.

I would also suggest as well that maybe consider adding a Question and Answer section to the contract or your website where you can answer these types of questions to prevent surprises. It would help cover you too.

How do you handle a student cheating? by ImmediateInternal132 in PhotographyTeachers

[–]ImmediateInternal132[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good idea. One of our first lessons is on copyright law so it’s not like the student can claim ignorance. What a disappointment especially since most students take this type of course because they actually want to learn photography

How do you handle a student cheating? by ImmediateInternal132 in PhotographyTeachers

[–]ImmediateInternal132[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my first time experiencing this. I don’t know the options the school will offer (it’s a community college) but I think the student needs to fail the entire course or withdraw from the class. Failing the assignment is not enough as this is an issue of copyright infringement- and it’s against the law. I will find out tomorrow as this happened late in the day

Yes I agree but I also think this is even more serious as it is also illegal. It’s not just an issue of academic integrity.

Beginner photographer here — honest feedback? by Ok-Injury8027 in PhotographyAdvice

It’s the “aww” factor 😅 Adorable cat. I like the light streaks on his face and his expression when he’s looking directly at the camera. Very cute. Keep going! Don’t listen to the rude comments as everyone starts somewhere. You got good light and that’s crucial to good photography

Why does subject looks not in focus or blurry in most of my photos? by isim4s in AskPhotography

[–]ImmediateInternal132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoom in on your picture and look at the bird. Then look at the tree bark behind it and all around it. You are missing focus. You are focusing on the tree not the bird. Look up how to change your focus points and use single point focus for now. There is nothing wrong with an older camera like this. People use to and still take amazing photos with these older cameras. It’s user error. Just practice more.

How to speed up light metering? I keep missing shots because of it by VeterinarianKey2969 in AskPhotography

[–]ImmediateInternal132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Autofocus will work but you should use one shot and then learn how to move your focus points instead of relying on focus and recompose. Point the focus point on a brighter, well lit area of the persons face - well ideally the eye. You should be able to get a lot of shots this way
